The third section in a kirtana is (idai nilai, charanam, ettukadai pallavi) 2. Tisrajati Rupakam and Khanda jati Eka talam, each have (7, 3, 5) aksharams to an avartam. 3. Pantuvarali and Simhendra madhyamam, have the same fourth swaram in their arohanam because they are (uttaranga melas, purvanga melas, prashidha melas) 4. Dhanyasi and Hindolam are janya ragas of the (8 th and 20 th melas respectively, 8th and 15 th melas respectively) 5. Ghatam and Kanchira belong to the section called (sushira vadyams, pratama vadyams, tala vadyams) 6. Write a short essay on any one of the three composers given: Syama Sastri, Muthuswamy Dikshitar and Arunachala Kavirayar, with special emphasis on their valuable contribution to Carnatic music and also their special compositions. (10 marks) 2. a. Give the raga lakshana of a Janaka ragam from your syllabus, with a short sancharam, prominent pieces composed in the chosen raga and a swarastana graph of the raga. (8 marks) b. Choose any two janya ragams from the list given below. Simple sancharams, prominent pieces and swarastana graphs should also be given with the lakshanas of the ragas. The ragas are: Khamas, Hindolam, Dhanyasi, Vasanta, Surati, Kaanada and Bhupalam. (12 marks) 3. a. On the diagram of the veena in your question paper, mark and name the different parts on it. b. On the first string of the veena – mark the swarastanas of a Melakarta ragam of your choice. Write the name of the chosen ragam and give a short account of this instrument.
