WBC/NDC/BO/0514 West Berkshire Walking for Health Since 2001, The Walking for Health Scheme in West Berkshire has been promoting the benefits of walking as the easiest way of getting people active across the country. It’s easy, free and accessible to nearly everyone, no matter what their physical abilities or health. It’s also an easy activity to start slowly and build up gradually, and is flexible enough to fit into today’s busy lifestyles. Current government guidelines say adults should do 150 minutes of activity a week, while children and young people should do even more. Walking counts towards this, and it’s a great way to maintain a healthy weight and to improve your health and wellbeing. It can reduce the risk of developing serious illnesses like heart disease, cancer and type 2 diabetes, as well as helping people to manage those conditions. Walking is also great for improving our mental health by reducing stress and boosting confidence. Not to mention, if you walk with one of our groups you’ll get to discover more of your local area and meet lots of lovely people along the way..
