FACT SHEET CURRENT KNOWLEDGE ON THE THEME: Shipping in the Arctic The consequences of climate change are more clearly 8 felt in the Arctic than in any other region of the world. The particularly strong rise in temperatures in the high 7 latitudes causes a rapid decline in sea ice (Fig. 1) and threatens the existence of highly sensitive ecosystems 6 (see AWI Fact Sheet „Climate Change in the Arctic“).
