GEOHERITAGE AND CLIMATE CHANGE OPENING THE SECRETS OF HOME THE PROGRAMME OF THE PROJECT WEEK IN VAALA, FEBRUARY 2018 4.2.2018 – 10.2.2018 Sunday 4 February - at 17.55 the Italian guests arrive in Oulu, by bus to Vaala - at 19.30-19.45 the bus arrives at the school centre of Vaala, the host families pick up their guests - at 20.30 the teachers’ dinner at the restaurant Ruununhelmi in Säräisniemi Monday 5 February - at 8.45 gathering at Vaala Upper Secondary School, classroom 6 - the welcoming address by Jarkko Niiranen, the headmaster - some memories from the last project week - the Italians’ greetings and presentations - some facts about Rokua Geopark, Mikko Kiuttu - Sirpa Pietikäinen, a Finnish member of the European Parliament (MEP) gives a lecture on the topic Climate change and the European Union (by video) - the Finnish students’ presentations of the activities during the project week - at 11.20-11.50 lunch at the school canteen - at 12.00 by foot to Sahanranta beach by Lake Oulujärvi; activities in groups - at 14.30 by foot back to school - at 15.10 the school buses leave; the students by the host families - at 19.00 the teachers’ dinner at Utajärven pappila (an old parsonage) in Utajärvi Tuesday 6 February - at 8.45 the bus leaves for Muhos - at 10.00 – 11.30 visiting Pyhäkoski power plant - at 11.45 the bus leaves for Vaala - at 12.30 lunch at the school canteen in Vaala - at 13.30 -15.00 analysing data from the activities during Monday and Tuesday, - at 15.10 the school buses leave - at 18.00 – 22.00 the students’ get-together at the skiing-centre in Kurikkavaara - at 18.00 the teachers’ sauna evening, dinner and get-together in Kanttura; an old inn by the River Oulujoki Wednesday 7 February - at 8.50 the bus leaves for Hilikkula, Neittävä - at 9.30 – 14.00 activities in groups - at 11.30 – 12.30 lunch in groups - at 14.15 by bus back to school - at 15.10 the students’ school buses leave; the evening by the host families - at 17.00 the teachers’ dinner at the Hotel Rokua Health & Spa - at 18.00 the teachers’ project meeting at the Hotel Rokua Health & Spa Thursday 8 February - at 8.45 the bus leaves for Oulu - at 10.15 visiting Oulu University; Thule Institute, professor Kari Strand’s lecture - at 11.00 lunch at the university - at 12.30 – 14.00 professor Marco Giardino’s lecture, Turin University - at 14.15 by bus to the Oulu Museum of Art or to the market place; the teachers visit the Oulu Museum of Art at 14.30 -15.30 - at 14.30 – 18.30 the students have time for shopping or visiting the Oulu Museum of Art; the visit is voluntary for the students - at 17.30 the teachers’ dinner at the restaurant Sokeri-Jussin Kievari - at 18.30 the bus leaves for Vaala from the market place of Oulu Friday 9 February - at 8.45 -13.00 the students make snow sculptures in the yard of the school centre; guided by the students of Lapland University - at 11.20 lunch at the school canteen - at 9.30 -11.20 the teachers prepare the application for a new project - at 13.15 – 14.45 the students prepare and finish their presentations for the farewell party - at 13.00 the teachers’ project meeting at school - at 15.10 the school buses leave - at 18.00 a farewell party at school - at 19.30 dinner at the school canteen Saturday 10 February - at 3.15 meeting at the school centre - at 3.20 the bus leaves for Oulu airport - at 6.00 the Italians’ flight via Helsinki to Italy .
