A flirty little French number that knows exactly what it wants to be — you’ll be back for more. ​ Vinho Verde 5.25 7.25 29 Márcio Lopes, Loureiro, 2016, Vinho Verde, Portugal, 11.5% ​ ​ ​ Crisp, fresh orchard flavours and a light refreshing spritz. Bonhomme Chenin (tap, natural, bio, ve) 5.5 7.5 20 30 40 Nicolas Reau, Chenin Blanc, 2016, Loire, France, 12.5% Apples, pears, summer pollen and a rich, farmy earthiness grip this tantalising Chenin that balances fresh acidity with biscuity creaminess. Oniric Blanc (organic, ve) 30 Entre Vinyes, 2018, Xarel-lo, Catalunya, Spain, 12% Floral and citrus notes abound in this rounded and tangy green-fruit scented wine. Naughty and natural; Sardinian Vermentino grapes Down Under. Wine run amok, as nature intended. Arndorfer Grüner Veltliner (biodynamic, natural, ve) 6.75 9.25 34.5 Martin and Anna Arndorfer, Grüner Veltliner, 2017, Kamptal, Austria, 12% Vibrant, spicy, aromatic and herbal, this slightly cloudy unfiltered white is intriguing, complex, delicious and gluggable in equal measure. An Austrian hillside in a glass. Prunecchio (organic, ve) 36 Sammontana, Sauvignon, Trebbiano, Malvasia, 2018, Tuscany, Italy, 12.5% Peaches and cream or a cherry Bakewell? This totally dry but rich Tuscan wine swirls with flavours of ripe Italian stone fruit, cherries and almonds. Dajoar Riesling (ve) 7 9.5 37 Andreas Bender, Riesling, 2015, Mosel, Germany, 11% Slip into the days of Mosel gone by as you drink this elegant, honey-scented wine laced with ripe apricot flavours. Off dry and on point. Holly’s Garden (biodynamic, natural, ve) 7.25 9.75 37.5 Holly’s Garden, Pinot Gris, 2016, Victoria, Australia, 12.5% What a stunner. Apples, spice and all things nice make this gorgeous wine a staple sip for any lady (or gent’s) garden. Notes of pears and apples have a dreamy quality, balanced with tangerine acidity and perfect roundness. El Carro Amphora (biodynamic, natural, ve) 39 Bodegas Vinessens, Moscatel de Alejandria, 2018, Alicante, Spain, 13.5% Made in traditional clay amphora, this medium-bodied and gloriously golden wine comes with floral and herb aromas including notes of orange blossom, honey and toffee. Enjoy a saline bite, gentle tannins and a long elegant finish. Completely unfiltered with no added sulphur. Tillingham White (natural, ve) 39 Tillingham, Müller Thurgau, Ortega, Bacchus, Chardonnay, Schönburger, 2018, Peasmarsh, East Sussex, 10.5% Crisp, dry and aromatic with smoky stone fruit flavours and apple aromas, this is a rich and mineral local white that shows off the full effect of our Chablis-esque chalky soil. Chablis (organic, vegan) 7.5 10 40 Gérard Tremblay, Chardonnay, 2016, Burgundy, France, ​ ​ ​ ​ 12.5% Full of fresh citrus notes and hints of grapefruit peel, this unoaked Chardonnay is lovingly crafted with minimal intervention by Gerard Tremblay and his wife, 5th generation winemakers. Light but rich, it’s a delight. Davenport Horsmonden Dry (biodynamic, natural, ve) 40 Bacchus, Ortega, Faber, Siegerrebe, Huxelrebe, 2018, Rotherfield, East Sussex, 11.5% Dried citrus, honey, elderflower and toasted hazelnuts mingle in this elegant and charming, super-clean Sussex white that keeps giving. A treat to have down the road. Attention Chenin Méchant (natural, biodynamic, ve) 41 Nicolas Reau, Chenin Blanc, 2018, Loire, France, 12% A stunning light and expressive wine with citrus and apple flavours, some creaminess and racing acidity. Delicious. Beware of the Chenin, it means and you can see why - addictive stuff. La Dilettante Vouvray (natural, biodynamic, ve) 42 Catherine Breton, Chenin Blanc, 2017, Loire, France 12.5% Not content with making an array of fantastic natural wines along with her husband Pierre - try the Chinon and Grolleau - Catherine Breton goes it alone on this side project wine humbly named ‘the dabbler’. Made from 40-year old vines, this is a youthful, creamy, rich and truthful expression of Chenin at its best. Definitely worth a dabble. Miss Terre Muscadet (biodynamic, natural, ve) 42 Domaine de la Sénéchalière, Melon de Bourgogne, 2016, Muscadet, Loire, France, 12% A Muscadet, but not quite as you know it, this wine called Miss Terre - a play on the French for mystery - is bright, vibrant, creamy and elegant. Aged on its lees for 9 months and coming from vines ranging from 60 to 80 years old, it is fruity, rich and intense. Sensational. Sancerre (organic, ve) 43 Sylvian Bailly, Sauvignon Blanc, 2016, Loire, France, 12.5% Ever the picture of style and sophistication, fresh green fruits meet high minerality to create this timeless classic. This husband and wife team have created perfect equilibrium in the eastern Loire Valley. Wine bliss. Vom Kalk Furmint (biodynamic, natural, ve) 45 Franz Weninger, Furmint, 2018, Weinland, Austria, 9.5% A fresh and balanced wine that sings of its kalk - chalk - soil. Pure and pristine with flavours of lime and white flowers, a backbone of minerality and hits of acidity and salinity. Happy and beautiful with a long finish and plenty of structure. Nanclares Albariño (ve) 46 Alberto Nanclares, Albariño, 2017, Rias Baixas, Galicia, Spain, 13% A truly stand-out version of this Galician classic, this Albariño is made from 30 to 60 year-old vines with only low quantities produced, creating a very pure expression of this good time grape - saline, fresh, precise and clean. Sunny sea air in a glass. Uberrima Palomino (natural, under flor, ve) 47 Bodegas Cota 45, Palomino, 2018, Jerez, Spain, 11% Winemaker Ramiro Ibáñez Espinar looks to the past and the future with his pioneering wines that use age-old techniques and heritage varietals in modern ways. He also breaks all the rules by making what are effectively unfortified sherry wines. This is unfortified manzanilla - salty, acidic, rich and convivial. It’s just less strong and you’ll want to drink more. Little Bastard (natural, ve) 47 Staffelter Hoff, Muller Thurgau / Muscat / Riesling / Sauvignon Blanc, 2017, Mosel, Germany, 11.5% Unfiltered, funky and searingingly fresh, this big juicy wine is named as it’s a right old blend in an area that doesn’t - or at least didn’t - really do blends. If life’s a bitch, grab a bastard and make it better. A Farmyard fave. Pouilly Fumé (ve) 48 Cailbourdin, Sauvignon Blanc, 2018, Loire, France, 12.5% Harvested from the appellation’s best limestone slopes, this is crisp, refreshing, complex and mineral-led Sauvignon at its very best.
