Sylvie Tardif, Dean Academic Systems – Registrar Vanier College seeks an alumni member to join its Board of Directors The Vanier College Board of Directors is currently seeking an alumni graduate (Technical studies program) to serve a three-year term. This is a tremendous opportunity to represent your peers in College matters, participate in Board deliberations and decisions, and collaborate with a broad cross-section of other Board members representing industry, faculty, staff, administration, alumni and students. The Board is the governing body of the College and is composed of 19 members who serve on a voluntary basis. The Board of Directors meets approximately six times per academic year on Tuesday evenings and oversees certain college operations, establishes major college policies, and develops academic and related plans. To be eligible, the candidate should have received their diploma from a Technical studies program at Vanier College and not be a member of College staff. Preference will be given to candidates who received their diploma at least three (3) years ago, work in the St-Laurent borough, and are involved in social/community activities and organizations. How to Apply Interested candidates are invited to submit their expression of interest to the Department of Corporate Affairs at [email protected]. Submissions must include (1) a CV accompanied by (2) a short cover letter describing why they are interested in sitting on the Board of Directors and what relevant experience they would bring to the Board. Sonya Santolin, Vanier Corporate Affairs Women’s and Gender Studies Graduate Wins BASF Scholarship Join me in congratulating recent Women’s and Gender Studies Major graduate India-Lynn Upshaw-Ruffner, who has earned the 2020 Jackie Robinson Entrance Award from the BASF (Black Academic Scholarship Fund). This $2000 scholarship will enable India to pursue her studies at Concordia University in Art History and Studio Art. Ultimately, India wants to curate and write about art works by marginalized communities. Many of you may remember India from her exemplary involvement in Vanier’s community life. She was actively involved in many organizations on campus, including acting as editor-in-chief for the student newspaper and head curator for Vanier’s art gallery. Her stewardship of both the newspaper and the gallery was quiet, but consistent and professional, and the choices she made for publication and exhibit included a wide range of social justice issues. India is also a graduate of the Women’s and Gender Studies Major and was heavily involved in promoting the activities of the program. I was privileged to have India as a student, and she proved to be a quick study and adapted easily to the collaborative environment of the major. To celebrate along with my students studying Italian at Vanier this semester, I invite the greater community to take part in watching the film, ‘18 Regali’ (‘18 Presents’) on Netflix. It recounts the story of an 18 year old girl and her life triumphs and struggles. It’s available in Italian with subtitles along with various dubbed versions. Buona visione! And Keep safe.
