Scottish Government recognises that many developers have individual company policies and approaches which work well to deliver community benefits, and this guidance is intended to share and build upon the progress in the field to date for forthcoming operational projects. The industry has expanded rapidly over the past decade, bringing millions of pounds of investments to local areas throughout Scotland and empowering often remote, rural communities. There is a national imperative to learn from both good and bad practice to date and to look for greater consistency across Scotland in order to maximise the benefits to both developers and communities from renewable energy and the associated voluntary packages. Aspiring to good practice processes is vital to improving understanding between stakeholders, and these principles should form the foundation on which to base further context-specific discussions.
