The film, directed by Kevin Macdonald (The Last King of Scotland), hardly makes the artist out to be a saint. Bob Marley was stubborn, hard at times toward his children and not always faithful to his wife. But Macdonald gives us a sharp portrait of a complex man who more than 30 years after his death remains a towering figure in pop music as well as a cultural one.
