Page |2 Jungle Operations International Course – Guidelines for Candidates JUNGLE OPERATIONS INTERNATIONAL COURSE (CIOS) GUIDELINES FOR CANDIDATES (Updated on August 30th, 2019) PART I ± PURPOSE To establish the first contact with the militaries from Friendly Nations, candidates for the JUNGLE OPERATIONS INTERNATIONAL COURSE ( CIOS), guiding them to their intellectual, physical, organic, psychological, material and administrative preparation for the Course. To greet the militaries from Friendly Nations who have decided to attend the Jungle Operations International Course, to be carried out by the Jungle Warfare Training Center (CIGS), the world reference for operations in the Jungle, thereby demonstrating a high sense of professionalism and search for the technical professional improvement. PART II - GENERAL GUIDELINES The Jungle Operations International Course is a combat course. Therefore, it requires that the candidate, future student, must have some basic professional knowledge related to military activities that are taught in their native countries. This knowledge will be adapted to operations in jungle environment during the Course. It is interesting that the candidates for the Jungle Operations International Course could have some knowledge about surviving in the jungle and organic adaptation to this operational environment. Page |3 Jungle Operations International Course – Guidelines for Candidates It is important that the candidates could have enough time, in their countries of origin, to carry out their physical, organic, intellectual, psychological, material and administrative preparation. All guidelines can be found on CIGS website at www.cigs.eb.mil.br The candidate for CIOS must fill in the Candidate's Information Sheet which is in the ªANNEX Aº and send in advance to the 5th Section of the Brazilian Army Headquarters (International Affairs Section) in the e-mail [email protected] and to the Students Division of CIGS in the e-mail [email protected]. PARTE III - THE COURSE 1. COURSE SCHEDULE The Jungle Operations International Course will follow this schedule: CIOS SCHEDULE Date of arrival October 11th, 2019 Mobilization October 11th to October 18th, 2019 Doctrinal Interaction October 16th to October 17st, 2019 Beginning of the Course October 20nd, 2019 End of the Course November 24th, 2019 Demobilization November 25th to November 29th, 2019 Date of leave From November 30, 2019 In the ª ANNEX Bº, Calendar of Events, the candidate can find information about the procedures and events to be carried out until the beginning of the Course Jungle Warfare, an efficient test! COURSE PHASES Currently, the Jungle Operations International Course has the following phases: Phase Week General Purpose Administrative measures, psychological evaluation, health and physical exams. 0 Mobilization Exchange of doctrine, military knowledge and combat experiences in the jungle environment. Life in the Jungle 1 Employ techniques for survival in a jungle environment. Provide knowledge and develop tactical techniques and procedures essential for the Special Techniques execution of the Jungle Operations. 2 and 3 Use means and techniques to move in jungle environment. Employ special techniques in military operations in jungle environment. Adapt doctrinal and planning knowledge for Operations Jungle Operations. 4 and 5 Perform military operations in the Amazonian operational environment. Command fractions in jungle environment. Visits, health inspection, fraternizations, closing 6 Demobilization and badge delivery ceremony. TOTAL 7 WEEKS Jungle Warfare, an efficient test! Page |5 Jungle Operations International Course – Guidelines for Candidates PARTE IV ± REQUIREMENTS The requirements for the appointment of militaries from Friendly Nations for the CIOS are laid down in the Regulatory Instructions for Enrollment, Selection and Registration in the Courses of the Jungle Warfare Training Center (IRISM/CIGS - 2019). The most important follow below: I - Approval in the Health Inspection (IS) performed in the countries of origin, according to the protocol published by the Health Board; II - The English level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ± CEFR; and III - Approval in the Preliminary Physical Fitness Test carried out in the countries of origin, as indicated in the Physical Fitness Test (EAF) Table found in page 9 in this guideline and supervised by the corresponding Military Attaché. PART V ± SPECIFIC GUIDELINES 1. HEALTH INSPECTION An initial Health Inspection will be performed by the military of the Friendly Nations in his country of origin and a definitive Health Inspection for registration to be held in Manaus during the mobilization week. After completing the examinations in his country of origin, the candidate must send the Health Inspection Form, which is in ANNEX "C", duly signed by the medical expert of his Military Organization to the 5 th Section of the Brazilian Army Headquarters (International Affairs Section) in the e-mail [email protected] and to the Students Division of CIGS, by the e-mail [email protected] On the occasion of the Health Inspection at CIGS during the Mobilization Week, the following medical examinations with their reports shall be presented by the related candidate - Frontal and lateral (lungs and heart) chest radiograph and sinus and face bone radiography; - Serology for Lues, Machado Guerreiro Reaction (Serology for Chagas© disease) and HIV; - Complete blood count, ESR, Platelet count; Jungle Warfare, an efficient test! Page |6 Jungle Operations International Course – Guidelines for Candidates - Fasting glycemia; - Parasitological stool; - Urinalysis; - Electrocardiogram at rest; - Ergometric test (Cardiovascular evaluation); - Glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT); - Glutamic pyruvic transaminase (SGPT); - Urea and Creatinine; - Bilirubin (total, direct and indirect); - Dental (panoramic radiography of the dental arches); - Serology for hepatitis A and hepatitis B (containing at least HBsAg and antiHBc)
