View this e-mail in your browser Spreading the word about our great businesses We’ve been out and about across the district with our cameras, talking to business owners about the measures they’ve put in place to welcome back shoppers, as well as hearing from shoppers about how they’re enjoying safely returning to our high streets. You can find all the videos on our YouTube channel. We’re sharing them across our social media channels, encouraging people to continue supporting their local businesses across the district. Deadline approaching for grant applications Businesses in need of financial support have just over a week left to apply for the Additional Restrictions Grant. Applications for the grant, which offers a discretionary one-off payment to businesses severely impacted, but not forced to close by Covid-19, must be made by 20 June 2021. Details of eligibility and how to apply can be found on our website, along with information on all other financial support available for businesses, including the: Restart Grant Scheme, which offers one-off grants to eligible non-essential retail businesses and hospitality, accommodation, leisure, personal care and gym business premises, to help them reopen safely. This scheme closes on 30 June 2021. Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, open until 30 September, known as the furlough scheme, which offers eligible employees 80% of their current salary up to a maximum of £2,500. Self employed Income Support Scheme, which provides a grant of 80% of three months’ trading profits, capped at £7,500. Help available for Oxted jobseekers Oxted residents currently looking for employment could benefit from a new job club, launching this month. The Job Club, provided by Churches Together in Oxted and District along with Titsey Rotary Club, provides a range of free support and advice to help people living in Oxted looking for a new job. Members of the Job Club will be able to receive confidential one-to-one mentoring from experienced Job Club volunteers and access small group seminars to keep you motivated while looking for employment to help: Overcome the disappointment of being out of work. Determine your career direction. Identify strengths. Prepare for networking, CV writing, job applications and interviews. Be scam aware Buckinghamshire Trading Standards is running a series of free ‘Businesses Against Scams’ online sessions, aimed at helping businesses of any size become aware of the dangers they face from scams. Details of future sessions and how to book are available online. Are you considering hiring an apprentice? Businesses considering hiring an apprentice can access training and learning help and advice to help get the most from your apprenticeship. The Association of Learning Providers in Surrey (ALPS) is a network of training providers and colleges offering support in apprenticeships, study programmes and other vocational courses. Opportunity for single-use mask providers Heathrow Airport is inviting businesses to apply to work with them to produce around 80 million new sustainable single-use masks to help reduce waste. Interested businesses can register online to read full details of the tender. Supporting the mental health and wellbeing of your employees Surrey County Council and partners will be hosting a free online event on 30 June, from 10am to 11am, to discuss the business case for mental health provision for employees and how best to support employee wellbeing. The event includes breakout discussions as well as talks on compassionate leadership and stigma. Tickets for the event are available online. Free business advice and events A range of free advice and webinars are available to help support businesses through the current pandemic: Surrey Chambers of Commerce helps businesses by connecting them to opportunities, skills, knowledge and valuable contacts. Surrey Chambers is extending its EU Transition support to cover the whole of Surrey, thanks to funding from C2C and M3 Enterprise Local Enterprise Partnerships. Any businesses struggling with EU transition issues, particularly documentation requirements, should contact the team for advice and support. The government has produced some videos, giving advice to businesses on requirements for trading with the EU. The website also offers the opportunity to sign up for future webinars on EU-related topics. The Coast to Capital Growth Hub team provides fully funded advice and support to help small and medium sized businesses connect with business support, experts and funding opportunities, as well as post EU transition advice. Coast to Capital is also running a programme to support residents of the Coast to Capital area to help them become ready to look for employment or re-enter the job market. Details of the Making a Difference programme is available on Coast to Capital’s website. The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) is available to help support and protect the interests of smaller businesses, small business owners and the self-employed by offering advice and guidance and running virtual events. FSB members have access to advice and guidance as well as virtual events coming up on a range of topics. More information, including how to join, can be found on FSB’s website. The FSB is also running webinars on 15 June, called ‘Roadmap out of lockdown: where next for employees?’ and on 17 June, called ‘Established Business Workshop: Marketing and Branding’. The Business Hot House Programme provides growth opportunities for established SMEs, with a range of free events on offer. WSX Enterprise is running a number of online webinars and seminars, including a programme of webinars on planning, managing and growing your business and a webinar to help businesses understand the Invest4 Grant Fund criteria and process. Gatwick Diamond Business is running events designed to help businesses respond innovatively to new challenges and opportunities. It is also offering up to 90 minutes of free expert advice for businesses wanting to grow or transform, through Diamond Experts. Mentoring from business owners who have grown their business is also available, as is training to help equip businesses for future growth. Start Up Croydon offers a three day business training programme for £25, giving start-up businesses an overview of how to create a business plan. HMRC has webinars for employers, their staff and the self-employed. You can watch previously recorded webinars and register for future webinars, with webinars on topics including the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, the Self-Employment Income Support and the Coronavirus Statutory Sick Pay Rebate schemes. Funding opportunities Virgin Start Up Loans offers start up loans from between £500 and £25,000, along with a business mentor to help make the best use of the loan. Fredericks Foundation start-up loans and support are available for those who have found it difficult to access financial support. The Prince's Trust helps unemployed people aged 18-30, or those who have limited means to start- up businesses. The government’s business support finder tool helps businesses find financial support to help them during the pandemic. Business advice from Money Saving Expert Money Saving Expert regularly updates its range of guidance and advice to help businesses during the current pandemic, including: Coronavirus help for employees, which includes information on how the furloughing scheme works and who’s eligible. Coronavirus self-employed and small limited company help, which includes your rights if you’re self- employed or the director of a limited company.
