As a teacher I‘ve had the opportunity to judge, mark and prepare Year 12 students for their HSC exams in a broad range of subject matter and medi- ums. Some essential requirements in this field are a comprehensive knowledge of practical and critical/historical studies and a wide array of technical skills. As an art teacher I also see my task as developing the imagination and creativity of my students as well as encouraging a love of the visual arts. In February 2020 Dorne conducted a practi- cal demonstration of lino-cutting which was well attended and greatly enjoyed. Dorne provided materials and generously gave members the opportunity to experience a printing medium. October Demonstration by Joe Bezzina on October 15th 2020 Members were privileged to see a wonderful demonstration in acrylics by Joe Bezzina. A simple country scene was converted into a masterpiece of acrylic impressionism as Joe demonstrated his artistic skills. Light colours were added to the canvas early and Joe then proceeded to mix his colours on the canvas rather than the palette. The result was a vibrant, lively and colourful artwork. Once the initial free flowing strokes had created the mood of the painting, Joe added some detailed finishing touches. 2 Artwork of the month for October OCTOBER CRITIQUE Congratulations to Julie Agnew for her “Artwork of the Month” as selected by our guest critic Joe Bezzina. Joe described the Julie’s artwork “Agar Steps” as “a lovely variation of marks and patterns to make a very successful picture”.
