The 20-Point Performances Minutemen advanced the the Semifi nals of the NIT last season. The squad will be led by Preseason All A-10 First Team selection Chaz Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y.). Williams averaged 16.9 points and In 2012-13 6.2 assists last season for the Minutemen. Friars Defeat Bryant: The Friars defeated the Bryant Bulldogs, 81-49, on Monday, Nov. 12 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Provi- dence, R.I. Junior forward Kadeem Batts (Powder Springs, Ga.) tied his career-high with 27 points on 12-of-15 shooting. He also had nine rebounds. The game marks the fi rst time since the December meeting against Georgetown last season that the Friars held a team to less than 50 points and brings Providence's all-time record to 5-0 against Bryant. The Friars got off to a quick start, leading Bryant by as many as 26 points in the fi rst half. He tallied 21 of the team's 47 fi rst-half total. It was up to junior Bryce Cotton (Tucson, Ariz.) to take over at the point guard position again, and he was able to break double-digits in scoring before halftime (13 points). Sophomore LaDontae Henton (Lansing, Mich.) fi nished the fi rst half with nine points. Bryant went 0-of-10 from 3-point range in the fi rst half and was 7-of-22 overall. The Friars shot 63.3-percent from the fi eld in the fi rst half, contributing to their lead. Bryant was the fi rst to attack during the second half, making a quick fi eld goal and went on to pressure the Friars with an 11-1 run due in large part to three consecutive 3-point baskets. Bryant cut it to16, 48-32 with 13:37 left in the game., but that would be as close as it would get as the Friars led by as many as 32. The last time Batts registered 27 points was in the Friars' 90-59 home win against No. 14/15 Louisville on Jan. 10, 2012. Cotton recorded his fi rst career double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds in the win.
