The Crimson Hawks entered the season as the third team listed receiving votes after PSAC West Championships 21 spending 38 straight weeks in the coaches’ top 25 between 2015-18. Slippery Rock was the overwhelming favorite to repeat with six first COACHING STAFF place votes while Cal U (one 1st place vote) was second and IUP (one) was third. Millersville was picked Head Coach Paul Tortorella seventh out of eight teams in the Eastern Division, returning 10 starters from last year’s 2-9 team. R-Sr. transfer Alma Mater Ohio, 2006 Quinton Maxwell threw for 163 yards in the week one win, including a 47-yard TD pass on IUP’s second Defensive Coordinator Jim Smith play of the game. Maxwell came to IUP in the summer after playing in 23 games with eight starts at Ohio Alma Mater IUP, 1998 University, leading the Bobcats to the MAC Championship Game as a freshman in 2016.
