A treasure for young readers worldwide So far, nineteen laureates have received the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award. Who will be the next to join this fantastic group? This brochure contains the names of the 237 candidates nominated for the 2020 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award. This year they represent 68 countries. The list of candidates is drawn up by the ALMA jury, but this would not be possible without our nominating bodies all over the world. We are deeply grateful for their valuable work. On Tuesday, March 31, 2020, the ALMA jury will announce the new laureate. The announcement event is held concurrently in Stockholm and at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair. ArcticPaper: Volume children’s and young adult literature. The award amounts to SEK 5 million (approx. EUR 490 000) and is given annually to people and organisations working in the spirit of Astrid Lindgren. The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child is the foundation of our work and the award is designed to promote interest in children’s and YA literature. An expert jury selects the laureate(s) from candidates nominated by institutions and organisations all over the world.
