KEVIN HAYS Short Bio Kevin Hays is internationally recognized as one of the premier jazz pianists of his generation. He has released over a dozen recordings as leader, and is the winner of a Charles Cros ‘Coup de Coeur’ Award. He has appeared on many ‘best-Of’ lists, and featured on Grammy- nominated and winning recordings. In addition to playing with his own groups, he has toured and recorded with many celebrated jazz greats including Sonny Rollins, Joe Henderson, Roy Haynes, Steve Gadd, John Scofield, Chris Potter, among others. In 2011 Hays collaborated with fellow pianist Brad Mehldau. The resulting recording Modern Music (Nonesuch) garnered widespread critical acclaim and had the duo touring throughout the US, Europe and South America. Hays’s latest project, the New Day Trio, features Rob Jost on bass, and Greg Joseph on drums. The trio’s first recording New Day (Sunnyside) also spotlighted Hays’s songwriting, surprising fans and critics alike with his compelling and arresting vocals. The recording also included special guests Gregoire Maret on Harmonica and Tony Scherr on guitar. The New Day Trio’s latest release, North (Sunnyside) marks a return to the acoustic piano trio format and focuses on elements of history, beauty and hope. Hays‘s musical scope goes beyond the jazz standards he incorporates, bridging his love of classical, blues, soul, folk and rock music into his brilliant originals and arrangements. In 2017 he is releasing a duo recording with Lionel Loueke on Newvelle Records (on vinyl only). .
