AED located on the concourse level, behind home plate seating next to the women’s restroom. Covered practice: AED, emergency equipment, athletic training kit, splint bag • Game: AED, splint bag, spine board and accessories • Non-covered practice: access to EMS and public access AED • AED in public safety vehicles Roles of First Responders • Immediate care of the injured or ill victim • Activation of EMS (emergency medical system) • Wall mount phone on home dugout outside wall towards home plate (provide number of patients, condition of patient(s), first aid administered, location of patient(s). • Notify (if able to) Athletic Training Room (extension 8895) • Emergency equipment retrieval • Direct EMS to scene • Appropriate gates are opened • Designate individual(s) to direct EMS to victim • Scene control: limit scene to first aid providers and move bystanders away from area. • If possible, have insurance information ready for transport After the Event: • The Head Athletic Trainer/baseball athletic trainer must be notified of all emergencies. Include the procedures followed and the condition of the athlete when he/she was transported. • If there is an AED deployment: Immediately after the event contact San Diego Project Heartbeat at 858-974-0186 Venue Directions: FOWLER PARK is located adjacent to the Jenny Craig Pavilion. This venue is not visible from Linda Vista Road. Enter campus from Linda Vista Road at the Main Entrance (Alcala Park Way). Make first right on Torero Way, then veer right to go uphill adjacent to the field house above Torero Stadium. Go past the stadium field house and the Jenny Craig Pavilion. Fowler Park will be on your right. Go along the side of Fowler Park to the west entrance at Cunningham Field level (third base line). NON-EMS INJURY/ILLNESS (If in doubt, call a staff athletic trainer) Procedures to follow: 1. Athletic trainer/coach/first responder in charge stabilizes and prepares patient for transport to the ATR. 2. Transport the athlete to the baseball or JCP athletic training room. 3. Evaluate, and provide first aid. If necessary prepare athlete for transport to hospital or physician's office. 4. Check insurance. Refer the patient to a facility where his/her insurance will be utilized. If the injury occurs before 5 p.m. (M-F), call the physician’s office directly. If after 5 p.m. or on the weekends, call the team physician and advise him/her as to where the athlete will be taken. 5. Transportation to the medical facility is not the responsibility of the athletic trainer. Utilize friends, teammates, coaches, or managers. 6. Document procedures followed and the condition of the athlete when he/she was transported.
