The Bloom bioeconomy suitcase Congratulations - you´ve been chosen to join us on a journey into the future! What?! Don´t worry, we´re not going to connect you to a strange-looking time machine with electric sparks buzzing through a web of wires, but still we will see something of the future. The funny thing is, the future is already here today. Somehow - not completely, but we´re get- ting there. Today, we´ll peek inside a different kind of time machine, a suitcase filled with items that might look and feel like the products we´ve been using for years, except that they are slightly different: they don’t harm the environment. Our case has been packed with what is known as biobased products. Hmmn?! These are products that are made mostly from plants and other natural or recycled raw materials. This is different from many of the household products that we use today, made from fos- sils that the earth will run out of, in the future. And extracting these fossils from earth harms our environment, and gambles with our future. Yet there are many companies that are investing in innovative technologies that bet on replacing traditional fossil-based raw materials with renewable biobased resources in the products they make. We´ve put together a suitcase filled with many of these biobased pro- ducts that we know will ensure a greener environment and a thriving future. This brochu- re that you are reading now, will tell you more about what these products are and how they are wonderfully different from the ones we know from our lives today. Come join us in safeguarding our future. What will you pack in your suitcase the next time you travel? About BLOOM Bloom is an EU Coordination and Support Action implemented from 2017 to 2020. The project aims at bringing together partners from across Europe to debate, communica- te, and engage the public in the potential of bioeconomy. An economy based on biomass promises to foster a circular economy and to enhance climate change mitigation, while reducing dependence on fossil fuels. Bioeconomy covers a broad range of sectors, from agriculture and the agrifood industry, to fisheries, forestry, biorefineries, chemistry and (bio) energy – but despite its many appli- cations, it has yet to enter into the public consciousness as an exciting solution to societal challenges.
