Peoria OF/IF Billy Hamilton (CIN) broke the professional record for single -season stolen bases with 155 thefts between the California and Southern League in 2012. For his efforts, he was named California League MVP despite appearing in just 82 games. 2. Mesa OF Nick Castellanos (DET) was named MVP of the Futures Game in July after going 3-for-4 with a three-run home run. He also scored three times. 3. Surprise OF Bryce Brentz (BOS) was named International League outstanding postseason offensive player after batting .333/.385/.792 in seven games to help Pawtucket to their first IL title since 1984. 4. Salt River IF Matthew Skole (WSH) was the South Atlantic League MVP in 2012 after hitting .286/.438/.574 in 101 games. The former fifth- round selection out of Georgia Tech hit 27 home runs and drove in 92 runs. 5. Peoria C Mike Zunino (SEA) had a year to remember in 2012, winning the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award, the Dick Howser Trophy and the Johnny Bench Award as a junior at Florida. After being drafted third overall in June, the former Gator hit .360/.447/.689 between two minor league levels and was named offensive player of the postseason in the Southern League, hitting a league-high three home runs. 2012 Arizona Fall League Tidbits A total of 44 Arizona Fall League alumni dot the rosters of the four teams in the league championship round of the MLB playoffs, representing 44 percent of the players on league championship rosters. Since 1992, the year the Arizona Fall League started, 13 of the 21 no. 1 overall picks in the MLB draft will have played in the AFL.
