MEMORANDUM FOR Active Duty, Reserve, National Guard JAG Officers, and Civilian Attorneys SUBJECT: 29th Annual Alabama Military Law Symposium – August 10-11, 2018 – at Battle House Renaissance Hotel, Mobile, Alabama The Military Law Committee of the Alabama State Bar invites you and any of your fellow attorneys/paralegals to attend the 29th Annual Alabama Military Law Symposium. This year’s symposium will be held at the Battle House Renaissance Hotel located at 26 North Royal Street, in Mobile, Alabama, Friday, August 10 and Saturday, August 11. Registration will start at 11:00 a.m. on Friday and continue thru to the end of the symposium on Saturday. The uniform for all instructional sessions will be the Army Combat Uniform (ACU) in either the Universal Camouflage Pattern (UCP) or Operational Camouflage Pattern (OCP); Airman Battle Uniform (ABU); or service equivalent. Civilian attire is professional business casual attire. Casual attire may be worn for social events but should be professional in appearance. We have a great list of speakers this year. The training provides an opportunity for an interactive exchange of information and ideas on a wide range of current legal topics unique to the practice of law. This year’s presentations will focus on the areas of Administrative Law, Criminal Law, Ethics/Professional Conduct, Geopolitical Issues, Military Justice, Historical Issues, and Regulatory Updates. The majority of this instruction will qualify for mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit with most State Bars. In fact, the State of Alabama’s Bar Association is working to approve this course for up to a total of 8 hours of CLE credit which includes 1 hour of ethics. Please find attached hereto, the Information Packet for this event. The Information Packet contains the registration form, the schedule for this event, hotel reservation information, information for the Ice Breaker, and sitemaps for downtown Mobile, Alabama. We highly encourage that you pre-register for the event. By pre-registering, you allow us to make sure that we have enough materials and refreshments for all of the attendees during the symposium. With that said, you can still register on the day of the event, however printed materials may not be available. The block of rooms is reserved under the name “Alabama State Bar Military Law Committee Meeting.” Check In time is 4:00 p.m. and Check Out time is 12:00 a.m. In addition, reservations by attendees must be received on or before 19 July 2018, (the “Cutoff Date”). At the Cutoff Date, the hotel will release the unreserved rooms for general sale. Reservations received after the Cutoff Date will be confirmed on a space- available basis and there is no guarantee that you will still receive the group rate. The hotel requires a valid credit card and photo ID to be presented at check in. There is a conference fee of $65.00 per attorney and $33.00 per paralegal to pay essential costs. With your payment of the conference fee, you will receive admission to our Ice Breaker event on the night of 10 August 2018. However, for each guest that you bring with you to the Ice Breaker there will be an additional $33.00 charge.
