Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at http://wordsandmusic.brownpapertickets.com/ For this intimate performance at the Budarz theater that will trace his musical journey, Richie will be joined by long time musical collaborator Scott Sellen on guitar, banjo, piano and vocals and daughter Jesse Furay Lynch on vocals. Special guest JOHN BATDORF will open with a solo acoustic set. In 1966 RICHIE FURAY joined forces with Stephen Stills & Neil Young to form Buffalo Springfield. Although they were only together for two years, the band was one of the most influential of its era, earning Rock & Roll Hall of Fame recognition in 1997.After Buffalo Springfield disbanded, Richie and Jimmy Messina formed Poco, a band that was part of the first wave of the West Coast country rock genre and whose unique sound shaped musical styles for years to come. In 1974 Richie left Poco to form the Souther-Hillman-Furay Band and later embarked on a solo career that has spanned four decades. JOHN BATDORF has enjoyed a long and varied career, first rising to national prominence in 1971 as a member of the acoustic folk duo Batdorf & Rodney. Originally signed by Ahmet Ertegun for Atlantic records, the duo recorded three albums and toured extensively, both headlining their own shows and opening for artists such as America, Linda Ronstadt, Fleetwood Mac and many others. John has recorded four albums as a solo artist, his latest being One Last Wish in 2011. About the Words & Music concert series: The Ossining Library Foundation’s Words & Music concert series presented by TD Bank brings well known singer-songwriters and recording artists to the Library’s 200 seat Budarz Theater for FREE Sunday afternoon concerts. On May 3, Saturday, from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm volunteers are invited to participate in the third annual state wide I Love My Park Day being hosted by the Friends of the Old Croton Aqueduct. Volunteers will have the opportunity to preserve trees and native plants by cutting vines, removing invasive bushes and plants and by clearing brush and litter. The event will be held on the Aqueduct Trail along the border between the Towns of Cortlandt and Ossining. Meet on the trail entrance marked by the Croton Gorge Unique Area sign (look for the yellow canopy). Parking is available on Quaker Bridge Road, Croton on Hudson, between houses #124 and #99. The day will begin with instruction in plant identification, vine cutting and invasive species removal techniques. This is a unique opportunity to meet fellow trail walkers and neighbors and to learn from the expert naturalists participating from the co-sponsoring organizations, including Teatown Lake Reservation, Westchester County Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation and the Bronx River Parkway Reservation Conservancy. Volunteers of all ages are encouraged to participate since tasks will be available for all skill levels, from garlic mustard pulling to vine lopping. Tools, coffee, water, snacks, bug stuff, prizes and other perks, including I Love My Park Day tee shirts will be provided on site. Volunteers are encouraged to bring lunch, your own tools and gloves if you prefer and to wear long pants, a hat and a long sleeved shirt. The show will feature both short form and long form improv, willing audience member participation and an entire set featuring students who will participate in a residency with Magnet during the week leading up to the event. After the show, Ossining MATTERS will host a reception for premium ticket holders. The gathering, featuring refreshments plus live and silent auction, will be held at the Ossining Public Library. Ossining MATTERS will once again offer an online auction. In the 2nd floor Conference Room. -Wednesday, May 7 at 7 p.m. M&M Theater Productions Presents: “The Water Engine” The Water Engine by David Mamet, directed by M&M veteran, Floyd Gumble is a great drama within a radio play format. As the audience watches a radio play set in the 1930’s, the “play within the play” reveals the story of an inventor who’s found a way to run an engine on distilled water. At first ridiculed, he is courted by crooked lawyers attempting to buy the invention from him on behalf of ‘certain business interests.’ Murder and intrigue follow as the story unfolds. The play is 70 minutes in length with no intermission. Free. In the Budarz Theater. -Sunday, May 11 at 3 p.m. Concert featuring the Hudson Bells Come to the library and celebrate Mother’s Day with the Hudson Bells as they ‘Sing Spring.’ The Hudson Bells are a women’s choral group, singing three and four part harmony both a capella and with piano accompaniment.
