The property contains Ducks, Geese & Swans Anatidae 21,875 acres of pine flatwoods, wet prairies, hammocks, Black-Bellied Whistling Duck (W) O O marsh and cypress domes. It was purchased by the South Fulvous Whistling Duck (W) O O Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) in 1986 Mottled Duck (P) U U C C through the Save Our Rivers program. Stewardship of the Blue-winged Teal (W) U U property is currently a cooperative effort between the Green-winged Teal (W) U U SFWMD and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Ring-necked Duck (W) U U Commission (FWC). Prior to SFWMD acquisition, the Wood Duck (P) U U U U property was operated as a cattle and sheep ranch by the late John G. DuPuis, Jr., of Miami.
