‘THE MAYOR’ REIGNS AT LONG BEACH: James Hinchcliffe became the second winner of 2017 as he held off points leader Sebastien Bourdais to claim the victory at Long Beach on April 9. It was the fi rst win for Hinch since his return from an life-threatening crash at Indianapolis in 2015 and lifted him into second in the in the Verizon IndyCar Series point standings. Hinchcliffe trails Bourdais by 19 points heading into this weekend’s Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama. Team owner Roger Penske will look to add another trophy to his team’s collection during the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama with a lineup of drivers who have each visited victory lane at the track. • NEWGARDEN’S HOME TRACK: Josef Newgarden isn’t from Alabama, but he considers Barber Motorsports Park to be his home track. The former Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama winner hails from Nashville, Tennessee, a few hours away from the “Augusta of Motorsports,” where he claimed his fi rst Indy car win.
