The generosity of our friends and the Adena family is overwhelming and very humbling. Thank you for your continued support of our mission and belief that everyone in Southern Ohio deserves access to the best healthcare close to home. Contributions, pledges and grants for 2014 topped $1.6 million. A large portion of these funds ($398,934) came from our Adena Family – the Volunteer Advisory Council, the Women’s Board of Adena, Foundation Board and Health System Board Members, doctors, staff and management – which is a testament to our dedication and commitment to our patients. Another large source of funding ($208,000) came from the Appalachian Regional Commission and will be used for the Wellston Health Clinic. Most notably, we celebrate the conclusion of the Robotic Surgery phase of the 21st Century Campaign. The campaign raised more than $900,000 to assist the hospital with the $2 Million Robotic Surgery project. Since the robot’s arrival in late 2012, more than 700 patients have benefited from this technology, which, in Southern Ohio, is available only at Adena. Looking forward, and with your continued support, we will help Adena deliver the best healthcare close to home, which all of our patients expect and depend upon to live longer, happier, healthier lives. Sincerely, Lana Fairchild Chair & President 3 About the Foundation Adena Health Foundation was created on Jan. 7, 2002 by the Board of Trustees What drives us is what constantly challenges us – of Adena Health System to support its mission and charitable purposes. to make Adena the best healthcare system for you. The 21st Century Campaign for advanced medical equipment exceeded $900,000 to help ensure that the health system is ready when our patients need advanced medical technology. Our first priority for this campaign was to assist the hospital with the implementation of the da Vinci® Robotic Surgery program. At 2014 year-end, 717 patients had benefited from this new surgical capability, which resulted in much smaller incisions, less pain after surgery, shorter hospital stays and lower costs to the patient and to the hospital. In all, our surgeons performed 20 different kinds of surgeries with hysterectomies and gall bladder procedures accounting for more than half. “Through giving we help meet the needs of people in Southern Ohio.” Donate online at www.adena.org/foundation. 5 Sweet Music Rings through Cancer Center The sound of beautiful music can now be heard in the Adena Cancer Center. Thanks to the work of a music-loving volunteer, and funding from the Adena Health Foundation, there is a new piano in the lobby. Bob Jones, an Adena Volunteer and retired Waverly music teacher, was instrumental in helping the Cancer Center make this idea a reality. “He picked out the piano and helped get a great Bob Jones, Adena Volunteer deal on the purchase,” says Cancer Center Director Lana Uhrig. “We’d also like to thank the Foundation, its Executive Director Ralph Metzger and the System Executive Committee for supporting this wonderful project for our patients.” When the piano was recently delivered, Bob, who was the first to play it, and his first song were met with a huge round of applause. Cancer patients, family and friends can expect to hear more from Bob, who plans to tickle the ivories at the Cancer Center regularly. He is also working to line up other volunteers to play during the Center’s hours of operation, and some Adena caregivers have expressed an interest in playing during break times. Even if there are gaps in the performance schedule, the digital piano allows songs to be recorded so they can be played back if no one is available to perform. And since the piano is digital there is never a need to tune it. 6 “Giving nourishes belief in others.” Adena’s Level 2 Nursery Cares for Baby Lexi The Women & Children’s Campaign Makes a Big Difference to One Family Wendy Ervin is a Provider Enrollment Specialist thanks to Dr. Graham and Brian Towler, CRNA, who kept me in good spirits until with Adena Health System.
