Shelton (Mac) Watts was appointed the first mayor by then-Gov. Kathleen Blanco and was subsequently elected by the people. The five members of the City Council are elected at-large. The Council meets at 6 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. The Planning & Zoning Commission meets at 6 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of each month. The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office provides primary law enforcement in Central, and the Central Fire Department provides fire protec- tion in much of the City of Central.
