Details can be found in this magazine and you are welcome at any of our services. Harvest Thanksgiving is, of course, a time for us to give thanks for the abundance of God’s provision for us. We also give thanks for those who work on the land ensuring the best harvest for us to enjoy. Here, in beautiful Shropshire we do indeed have so much to thank God for and we rejoice in that. At the same time we are also aware that the hot summer, which many of us have enjoyed, has been a challenge for farmers. We will also be mindful that whilst there is so much good in our world, and especially for us to enjoy here, there is also so much to trouble the world at this time. There seems to be a continuous stream of natural disasters, floods, fires and hurricanes. These are issues that the world faces along with wars, terrorism, aggression and much more. We live in a broken world that knows pain and suffering and it may feel that the troubles of the world are increasing at this time and are becoming more and more cause for concern. Many of us, including world leaders, find it hard to see how some of the current conflicts can be resolved and many of us are even at a loss sometimes to even know what to pray for. But prayer is essential because we need to remember that whilst human knowledge and understanding may find such things hard, nothing is beyond the means of God. It is God we look to because as our God provides abundantly for us, God can also provide solutions to the hardest and toughest of issues and it is God who brings that peace which is far beyond our understanding. Sometimes we don’t get answers from God immediately or in the way we may desire for ourselves and sometimes it may feel as though god doesn’t even hear our prayers. But I do firmly believe that whilst we hear of so many troubles, there is also a great deal of good going on around us….and that is where God is at work. So, we give thanks to God for so much and, as we do so, I commend to you to offer the concerns you have for the world into the hands of God and seek God’s peace in these troubled times. FROM THE EDITOR After the long, hot summer autumn is now upon us and so our front cover depicts all things Harvest! Below the lovely tractor on the left is a huge table set down the aisle at St Peter’s, Edgmond ready for an excellent Harvest Lunch in 2013. At the bottom is a picture of Kynnersley children celebrating Harvest in 2015. No doubt there will be some enjoyable celebrations in our six parishes this year, too. And I hope you like the cute little Harvest mouse on the right! Did you know that I have been editing this magazine since 2001?!! Do you think you could bring some fresh ideas to its content and presentation? I’m sure someone out there can – if you would like to try your hand as editor or deputy editor, please do let me know. The next edition of the Parish Magazine and Village News will be for the month of November 2018. The deadline for contributions is Sunday 7th October. Please let me have your news and articles in good time – they can be delivered to me at the address on the inside front cover, or preferably emailed to me at [email protected]. Photos of all the activities going on in our villages are also very welcome. Don’t forget that you can also read this magazine online on both the village and church websites (addresses on the front cover). Our front cover photos look even better in full colour online! 4 HEALING SERVICE Just to remind you all that the next monthly Healing Service at St Peter’s, Edgmond will be held on October 14th at 6.30 pm. This will be the last of the summertime services and from November the service will revert to the earlier time of 4.30 pm during the winter months). Everyone is welcome at a Healing Service. It is not a curing service, but a healing service, and is a short, quiet, contemplative service. COFFEE AND CHAT The next Thursday Coffee Mornings at St Peter’s Church, Edgmond will be on October 18th following the 9.30 am Holy Communion Service. You don’t have to attend the service to be able to have a cup of coffee. Just turn up at the church at about 10.00 am or thereabouts, and join us for coffee (or tea) and a chat. We shall look forward to seeing you. It has been very artistically done and has been admired and remarked upon by all who have seen it. A huge “thank you” too to Jeremy and Charlotte Blackburn for providing the new kitchen floor. The Friends are having a very busy year and so far all the events have exceeded our expectations – thank you, everyone, for your continuing support. If anyone has any ideas or issues you would like to discuss or bring to our attention, please don’t hesitate to contact me or any of our committee members. Anne Price, Chairperson 407525 A DIAMOND ANNIVERSARY We were delighted to see Lionel and Shirley Barber at the Thursday morning Communion Service in St Peter’s on 9th August. They were here to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary and took the opportunity to check their entry in the marriage register! Lionel is the younger brother of the late Lawrence Barber and it was a privilege to welcome him and Shirley on such a special occasion.
