2020 Half Awake, Half Asleep- WEIYU HUNG

2020 Half awake, Half asleep WEI-YU HUNG is a Taiwanese womenswear designer based in the Netherlands. Tradition is avant-garde, local is global; he transfers the culture and traditional handcrafts into the design and go beyond the exploration of humanities and heritage to embrace the spirit of sustainable fashion. It brings together creations and social fashion that are embedded with historical impressions and future prospects. Bark fabric is one of the iconic materials in WEIYU’s design, which he saw his mother work with when he was a child. They follow the footprints of Austronesian people to inherit this traditional handicraft to the next generation and turn it into the modern design to make it spark. Since 2014, WEIYU HUNG has been invited to present in Dutch Sustainable Fashion Week, WSM White Milan, Mercedes Benz China Fashion Week, CentreStage HongKong Fashion Week, showcasing designs incorporating practicality with unconventional materials and vision on consciousness to environment and society, in the forms of catwalk shows, and presentations. WEIYU also gained great recognition through a wide range of projects including Vogue Talents 2020 issue, WEIYU HUNG x The R Collective collaborated collection exclusively for Net A Porter, Redress exhibition at Fashion for Good in Amsterdam, Annual auto show with Volkswagen in Taipei. Official Website: www.weiyuhung.com From bark to spark From useless to useful From abandoned to new life Plant the culture; from bark to spark Tapa ( tree bark lace ) handicraft is a traditional Austronesian handicraft to turn the tree bark into fabric with eco- friendly progress. For WEIYU, he saw his mother work with tree bark when he was a child so it’s not only a cultural heritage but something related to his life and family. In the 2020 collection, we engage the tree bark lace with embroidery, crochet and hand knitting to create a new flow and organic high-end texture to introduce it to the public. Plant the community; from useless to useful We would love to create a new humanity- based working to find out the happiness and give other the mental supports through working together. We collaborate with the studio and organization in Southern Holland and China to teach the sick, jobless people or the people released from the jail embroidery, crochet, and knitting to support each other and make them go back to the society and gain the encouragement in workplace to restart their life. Plant the fashion; from abandoned to new life There are lots of leftovers and abandoned material after the large scale of production in the fashion industry nowadays. Based on the sustainability, we collaborate with the leading textile and lace company in Taiwan to follow the up-cycling concept to recreate them into a new life and use our hands to solve the current situation of waste. 2020 Collection Review 1, Beige bark lace embroidery dress 2, White coating linen trousers 1, Cream white tree bark embroidery dress 1, White V neck top with embroidery rope 2, White coating linen trousers with silk pleated chiffon 3, White embroidery storm fleece gloves 1, Yellow embroidery hooded lackland jacket 2, Yellow spliced lace and coating dress 3, Yellow tided chiffon trousers 1, Beige embroidery hand stitch dress 2, Champagne crepe half-skirt belt 3, White embroidery and knitting Stormfleece glove 1, Black arrow embroidery lackland top 2, Black crepe skirt with chiffon ribbon 3, Black Miao shining cotton trosers 1, White bark lace embroidery with flower lace organza jacket 2, Golden embroidery white crepe top 3, Golden flower and grid embroidery belt 4, Peach flower vintage jacquard skirt 1, Black embroidery gown 2, Black embroidery storm fleece gloves 1, Beige grid embroidery shirt 2, Curved fish tail French lace skirt 1, White bark lace embroidery with champagne crepe dress 1, White embroidery short sleeve gown 2, White embroidery necklace 1, White bark lace embroidery gown 2, White coating linen half-sort belt Fashion│ Craftsmanship│ Sustainability│ Culture Email: [email protected] Website: https://www.weiyuhung.com/ Instagram: weiyuhung_design ( https://www.instagram.com/weiyuhung_design/ ) I expect to see my brand is not just a brand, but a human union with crafts, cares, and warmth with cultural belonging and close relationship.
