He continues to work to aid oth- ers and The Carter Center continues his hu- manitarian efforts. President Carter is a fly fish- erman! He grew up hunting and fishing with his dad when a boy on their family farm in Plains, Georgia. He came to the sport of fly fishing in the early 1970's on the Chattahoochee River, which forms the southern half of the Alabama and Georgia border. Since then, President and Rosalyn Carter have both become expert fly fishers. Photo courtesy of www.davidcannonphotography.com When in office as president, he fished in Alaska at the Four Lazy F Ranch near Jackson, Wyoming. He also loved to fish Spruce Creek, a tributary of the Little Juniata River in Pennsylvania. Spruce Creek was easily accessible from the presidential retreat at Camp David in Maryland’s Catoctin Mountains. President Carter fished at Spruce Creek for the first time in May 1979 and returned there often, forming a close friendship with Wayne Harpster and James Nevels who own property in which several miles of Spruce Creek flows. In the Jan- uary/February 1982 issue of Fly Fisherman magazine in a seven-page article title ''Spruce Creek Diary,'' the former President Carter reported on a week long trip with his family. President and Rosalyn Carter have fished around the world, and he authored “Jimmy Carter On Fly Fishing For Taimen”, published in the May, 2014 issue of Fly Fisherman magazine. He also published a book, An Outdoor Journal, with tales of his outdoor adventures (Bantam Books, 1988). The president and Rosalyn received official recognition of their place in the fly-fishing community with the opening of an exhibition entitled "The Tie That Binds" at the Jimmy Carter Library. The centerpiece of the exhibit was the oak roll top desk at which Carter does his tying (and is quite an artist at it). President Jimmy Carter is “the complete fly fisherman”. Andy started making fly tying hand tools in a one-car garage. Frustrated with the fly tying vises that were available at the time, he started working on the Presentation 3000 with the input and support of his brother Robin. That vise was not the first vise designed by Renzetti, however it was the first True Rotary vise made. Since its beginning, the Presentation 3000 became the vise of choice of the many fly tyers. In 1978 he opened Renzetti Custom Machines in a 3-car garage. Eight years later, a new manufacturing facility was build and in 1988 Renzetti Inc, as it is know today, was formally introduced. In the early 70's, Renzetti's tying tools and fly tying vises were only locally known. The Orvis Company was their first retailer. By the late 80's, the Traveler and the Presentation Series Vises were introduced and Renzetti started attending the consumer and manufacturing shows. Through direct contact with many tyers from around the world, received feedback and suggestions. In 1991, through a collaboration with Bob Popovics after meeting at a fly fishing show in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, the Master Series Vise was developed. After feedback of the proto-pypes, made in 1992, from Bob Popovics, Lefty Kreh and the late Matty Vincenguerra, the Master Series Vise was introduced in 1994. In 1996,Andy and family along with two associates moved to Titusville, Florida, the new home of Renzetti Inc. at 8800 Grissom Pkwy. Renzetti Inc. currently employs 10 associates, including Andy, Lily and son. Their primary business is the manufacturing of the finest fly tying and rod building equipment in the world, and also provide engineering and manufacturing services to many other industries around the country. Renzetti, Inc. owns many patents and trademarks and was the first fly tying vise manufacturer to offer a True Rotary Vise. Renzetti, Inc takes great pride in the fact that every process of the product line is made in the USA. Biographical Information From The Renzetti Website 4 2017 PFFMA Inductees Gifford Pinchot Gifford Pinchot (August 11, 1865 – October 4, 1946) was an American forester and politician. Pinchot served as the first Chief of the United States Forest Service from 1905 until 1910, and was the 28th Gov- ernor of Pennsylvania, serving from 1923 to 1927, and again from 1931 to 1935. He studied forestry in France and established a Department of Forestry in American universities. In 1896, President Grover Cleveland asked Pinchot to develop a plan for man- aging the nation's Western forest reserves. In 1898, Gifford Pinchot became chief of the Division of For- estry, later renamed the United States Forest Ser- vice in 1905. Pinchot introduced better forestry methods into the operations of private owners, large and small, by using new forestry school graduates to demonstrate good practices and help make working plans. He developed the Department of Forestry in Pennsylvania. Gifford Pinchot is often called the “Father of American Forestry”. Giffort Pinchot was a true outdoorsman with a passion for fly fishing. After discussions with Edward Hewitt, he established The Fisherman's Paradise on Spring Creek in Centre Coun- ty. It opened to the public in 1934 and the number of visitors in that first year totaled 2, 952. Today, the Paradise has the highest concentrations of wild brown trout anywhere in the state. Gifford Pinchot wrote a number of books on politics and forestry and two fishing books: To the South Seas.
