<p>Eight Men Out – Do 1 or 2; 3 or 4</p><p>1. When a crime happens, people will often discuss the motive, means, and opportunity that were necessary for a suspect to have committed a crime. Taking the players as a group or concentrating on one player, discuss their motive, means, and opportunity to throw the Series. Then, briefly be the prosecution or the defense for their actions.</p><p>2. We took notes and briefly discussed how baseball demonstrates the concepts of ambition, greed, and exploitation. Using specific examples from the film, explain how Eight Men Out dealt with these concepts.</p><p>3. Trace the children in the film as a metaphor for innocence, both of childhood and of baseball. Make sure to include the famous scene with Joe Jackson.</p><p>4. John Sayles spends much of the film cutting between various points of view (gamblers, owners, players, sports writers). Explain why you feel he made these editing decisions, using specific examples from the film. Additionally, describe what you believe is the intended impact on the audience.</p>
