Recipe for Making and Recycling Energy Through Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration

This is a multi part recipe where delicious energy and glucose will be made and used for plants and animals

Day One- Photosynthesis Start off with 1 cup of sunlight Add 2 ½ pounds of thykloids in chloroplast Mix well with H2O to activate NADP and ADP Microwave the mixture on high for 2 minutes

After taking the mixture out of the microwave you have formed NADPH and ATP in your mixture

Take the mixture and let it stand at room temperature overnight to allow CO2 to enter and O to be released

Day Two- Photosynthesis Place mixture in a blender and mix on the high setting to begin the Calvin Cycle which will incorporate CO2 with NADPH and ATP) Stop every 3 minutes and taste for sweetness

The more you blend your mixture the more sweet it will be you have made glucose

Focus Questions

What molecules go into making glucose?

What molecules are released in making glucose?

Where in the plant cell do the steps in day one happen?

What are the energy molecules in the photosynthesis recipe?

How does the Calvin Cycle help make the glucose for photosynthesis?

Overall Photosynthesis Equation is: Cellular Respiration Recipe A.K.A. Making Energy This recipe may seem long but takes place every time you breathe!!!

Begin with large mitochondria bowl

Stage one Place a handful of glucose in the bowl Breathe over the bowl for 3 minutes to add oxygen Take 2 cups of warm H2O and add it to the bowl

Mix well. Let it rest for 30 minutes Divide your mixture into two equal parts

Stage 2 Add a pinch of acetyl-CoA into each of the two mixtures and freeze it overnight

The freezing will allow for the buildup of NADH and FADH molecules and the release of CO2

Stage 3

Remove mixture from the freezer and let it come up to room temperature. This with activate ADP

Take a scoop and create 36-38 round circles

Deep fry each circle to allow NADH & FADH to come in contact with ADP

When your round circles float in the oil they are full of usable energy ( ATP) for your cells

Focus Questions What molecules go into making ATP ?

What molecules are released in making ATP?

Where in the animal cell do the stages happen?

What are the energy molecules in the cell respiration recipe? How many molecules of ATP are made in cellular respiration?

Equation of cell respiration:

HW Question

Analyze both the photosynthesis and cell respiration recipes and equations. These two processes rely on each other!!

What is the relationship between these two processes? List your ideas below
