The Future of Hawaii

The Future of Hawaii

The Future of Hawaii

Former governor George Ariyoshi was correct when he said, “Hawaii is a special place,” in his book Hawaii: The Past Fifty Years and The Next Fifty Years. Hawaii is a very unique and special place that needs proper guidance to continue to prosper and be a successful state. The decisions made now by leaders of Hawaii will critically affect all residents of Hawaii in next fifty years. Main aspects that need to be considered in the decisions of Hawaii’s future include: renewable energy, reliability on island resources, education, jobs, and a stable economy.

In the past, Hawaii overcame many problems including the bombing of Pearl Harbor and economic recessions. Today, Hawaii’s economy is rebounding and new laws need to be created to fulfill the needs of our people to create a better future for the next generations. If the economy and living conditions in Hawaii don’t improve, residents will have to move to the mainland because the islands will not be able to satisfy living needs for the large amount of people anymore.

To ensure the well being of Hawaii, the whole state needs to use more renewable energy and island natural resources. This will lower the costs that the state spends on importing oil and food and also prepare Hawaii for an unfortunate event that could separate them from all other outside sources and force them to live off the island itself. The ultimate goal for Hawaii should be to rely fully on renewable energy and improve agricultural lands to be able to feed all of

Hawaii’s residents. This will help the economy become stable because money will be circulating within the islands instead of being exported to the mainland or other places where Hawaii imports goods. Also, more jobs will be created because throughout the islands, there will be more agricultural land and renewable energy plants that need to be taken care of. Education is also an extremely important factor in the future of Hawaii. The education in

Hawaii needs to be directed toward the engineering and upkeep of energy plants and farming, while still teaching the youth about all subjects in school. The teachers need to start being better educators by taking extra time to prepare plans for the day and make school days longer for kids to be able to learn more in one day. Better educated students will lead to a brighter future and a smarter Hawaii.

These aspects: renewable energy, reliability on island resources, education, jobs, and a stable economy will make Hawaii a better place to work and live. In conclusion, Hawaii has a great future if the leaders of the state make the correct decisions for the people of Hawaii.

Works Cited

Ariyoshi, George R.
