Class lectures and discussion will mainly focus on the assigned texts, though there will be some discussion of contemporary issues when appropriate. Although the class will cover each of the assigned texts, the length of time spent on any text will vary depending on student interest in the discussions that might arise. There will be two exams of equal value, each having two sections (also of equal value), a section of short answer questions and a take home section consisting of a longer essay. The essay will not require any reading beyond the assigned readings, and I will grade them based on how well they convey an understanding of the authors’ arguments. I will use class participation to assign grades when students fall between two grades. For example, a student who attends class regularly AND makes a positive contribution to class discussion will receive points sufficient to change a B+ into an A-. I will deduct points for chronic tardiness, talking in class and similarly disruptive behaviors.

Hayek Classes 2-3: I-VIIpp. 3-122 Classes 3-4: VIII-XVIpp. 123-182

Epstein Classes 5-6: Chapters 1-3 Classes 7-8: Chapters 4-5

Class 8: Midterm

Sunstein Classes 9-10: Part I-II Classes 11-12: Part II-III

Levinson Class 12-13: 3-122 Class 14: 123-182
