What S My Circuit Scoring Rubric

6/5/18 What’s My Circuit Scoring Rubric: Codes (Total Score = 29 points)

Circuit A (Maximum score = 11) Q1: Observe the bulb in Mystery circuit A (Maximum score = 1) Code A, B, C, D or Z if blank

Q2: Draw circuit, show path of electricity and label series circuit (Maximum score = 7) a) Draw (Maximum score = 2) A = correct 2 battery, 1 bulb series configuration, with wires touching all CCPs B = correct 2 battery, 1 bulb series configuration, with minor errors, e.g. batteries are reversed or wires don’t touch all CCPs (e.g. wires don’t touch both CCPs on the bulb). Path must be a complete circle. C = incorrect series configuration (e.g. 1 battery, 1 bulb) but a complete circuit with all CCPS touching D = Incorrect series configuration and open circuit Z = Blank, no drawing, illegible drawing

b) Flow—circuit drawing must show a circular pathway (Maximum score = 2) A = arrows show a unidirectional flow through the circuit (wires) and through the light bulb B = arrows show a unidirectional flow through the circuit (e.g. arrows must follow one direction throughout the path) C = arrows show flow through the light bulb D = arrows show a multidirectional flow or arrows are incorrect (e.g. arrows on an open circuit) or red pencil flow on an open circuit E = flow drawn in red pencil through the circuit (wires) and through the light bulb (no arrows) F = flow drawn in red pencil through the circuit (no arrows) G = flow drawn in red pencil through the light bulb (no arrows) Z = Blank, no arrows, no red pencil

c) Labeling--can get points for labeling even if circuit drawing is incorrect (Maximum score = 3) A = all CCPs are labeled on battery and bulb and +/- symbols are labeled on all batteries B = if all CCPs (on batteries and bulbs) are labeled as such C = if CCPs are labeled only on the battery or bulb and +/- symbols are labeled on the batteries D = if +/- symbols are labeled on all batteries E = if CCPs are labeled only on the battery or bulb F = Labels do not identify the CCPS or +/- signs on the battery (e.g. labels “battery” or “bulb”) Z = Blank, no labels

Q3: Explain (Maximum score = 3) A = Comparison to 1 battery and 1 bulb configuration, indicates that the mystery circuit is brighter and provides explicit evidence (e.g. “I compared it to the circuit I made.”) B = Comparison to 1 battery and 1 bulb configuration and indicates that the mystery circuit is brighter/has more energy or power. C = Indicates that two or more batteries results in a brighter (more energy or power) bulb, but does not make a comparison OR explains that the less bulbs in a circuit results in a brighter bulb. D = makes a weak reference or comparison to notes from science notebook or journal or a circuit they made, but evidence is not clear. E = no evidence, insufficient evidence, unclear Z = Blank, I don’t know

D:\Docs\2018-05-04\0d0012b7049beb521c017223d15e42b4.doc 6/5/18 Circuit B (Maximum score = 18) Q1: Observe the Mystery Circuit (Maximum score = 1) Code A, B, C, D or Z if blank

***FOR Q2: Score each individual drawing separately and use the same rubric for each drawing***

Q2: Drawings of possible circuits (Maximum score = 7 per drawing, 14 total) a) Drawings-- must be a circular pathway of equal number of batteries and bulbs (Maximum score = 2 for each drawing, 4 total) A = correct 1 (2) battery, 1 (2) bulb series configuration, with wires touching all CCPs B = correct 1 (2) battery, 1 (2) bulb series configuration, with minor errors, e.g. batteries are reversed or wires don’t touch all CCPs (e.g. wires don’t touch both CCPs on the bulb). Path must be a complete circle.
