<p>Dear Appling band students: We have been asked again for the fourth year to participate in the City of Bartlett Veteran’s Day ceremony. I am asking 7th and 8th grade volunteers for this and may ask a few advanced 6th graders and depending on instrumentation needs, I may ask some Appling alumni high school students. This is a very special event and is usually for 200-300 people including veterans, city officials, and usually state officials (last year there was a US senator there). It is on Veteran’s Day which is Saturday November 11, so this is not a school holiday as in years past (which should maybe work out better for transportation and parent volunteers). We would be playing before the ceremony starts from 9:30 to 10, will also play one piece as part of the ceremony, and then will play a few songs afterwards. We may be able to go out to lunch at the Wolfchase mall afterwards as a group. We will have to see who is available to play and can provide transportation. I would have to also see if instrumentation would work out to have a balanced group. I would also like the same group to play for the Appling Veteran’s Day “Hero for Heroes” luncheon on Friday November 10 and those students would get out of class during the long lunch hour and play for all three grade level lunches and then be provided with a pizza lunch afterwards. We would have to have some after school rehearsals to prepare for this since I am asking 7th and 8th graders. Right now I have them scheduled for 10/4, 11/3, 11/8, and 11/9 (tentative but will confirm so you can plan). I will keep you posted on details.
