<p> COG-Ottawa Garden Tour 2012 (Rain or Sun)</p><p>Sunday July 22, 2012</p><p>10 am Morning Visit – Tom Marcantonio, 460 Wentworth Ave., Ottawa</p><p>Tom’s vegetable garden was started in 1978 and has been organic from the beginning. Tom has 350 square feet of raised bed gardens producing 150-175 kg of food per year with 3 crops harvested in most years (spring, summer and fall). The garden has roof top water collection, 2 small greenhouses, a bakeoven and a unique composting system.</p><p>In his spare time Tom volunteers with COG’s Growing Up Organic Program, Just Food, Permaculture Institute of Eastern Ontario and Master Gardeners. He is also Food Production Co- ordinator for the Woodpark Community Association and provides guidance for the Woodpark Edible Local Landscape (WELL) project.</p><p>Directions: Wentworth Ave. runs north off Carling Avenue, 4th block west of Woodroffe Ave. 460 Wentworth in near the end of the first block before Lawn Ave.</p><p>12 pm Picnic in Michele Park</p><p>Visit the Community Garden in Michele Park where Tom provides support and talk to some of the gardeners there. Bring you lunch and a blanket.</p><p>Directions: From Tom’s garden return to Carling Ave. and turn right (west), continue to fifth block on your left past Pinecrest – take Grenon Ave left (south) to Michele Drive on your right and Michele Park.</p><p>2 pm Afternoon Visit – Rebecca Last, 2930 Haughton Ave.</p><p>Rebecca is a member of Master Gardeners of Ottawa- Carleton, an active COG-Ottawa member and teaches in COG’s organic gardening course. She has been gardening at her home since 1992. In 2004 this small suburban lot was certified as "Backyard Habitat" by the Canadian Wildlife Federation. Over the years Rebecca's interests have evolved from growing pretty flowers to gardening for wildlife and most recently to an interest in growing food, permaculture and food security.</p><p>Her three compact gardens contain ornamentals, fruit bushes and annual food plants, including a selection of heritage tomatoes. The back yard features a pond, waterfall and an edible fig tree.</p><p>Directions: Directly across Carling Ave. from Michele Park take Scrivens Ave. north to Haughton Ave.(second block on right).
