Dress Guidelines for Eighth Grade Promotion - Polytechnic

Dear Parents,

Graduation seems far away, but it will be here sooner than you think. This is a very important event in the students’ lives. They will definitely be the center of attention that day. Please remember that the school will have a professional videographer in chapel so that you can enjoy yourselves. A DVD of the graduation will be given to each student as a gift from Saint Mark’s School.

Because the graduation is being video taped, we ask that you follow our dress guidelines carefully. Below you will find the dress guidelines for the sixth graders for their last day as Saint Mark’s students. If you have any questions regarding these, please feel free to contact either one of us.

Sincerely,

Louise Harris and Lisa Heidel

Dress guidelines for Saint Mark’s graduation

Remember that the students wear these clothes and shoes during the graduation and the reception in Community Hall following graduation!

GIRLS

 Dresses/skirts - should be appropriate for sixth grade age – not a prom dress, not too tight, not too revealing. The length may range from "slightly above the knee" to "mid- calf"; no floor length "gowns” or really short dresses. Dresses may be sleeveless, short-sleeved, or long-sleeved. As for straps – "lasagna straps" work, "spaghetti straps" don't unless they are hidden by a matching cardigan (no shawls); "strapless" is an absolute no-no. Girls can also choose to wear a skirt and blouse (same guidelines as above).  Shoes - Make sure that the shoes or sandals are comfortable and have an appropriate heel (not higher than 1 ½ “). Remember that they wear the shoes for at least 5-6 hours.  Jewelry, accessories, and make-up should be limited. The school will provide each girl with a bouquet of flowers which they will carry (hence the reason for no shawls).

BOYS

Boys should wear a suit or a blazer with dressy pants. A long or short-sleeved shirt, a tie (can be creative), dressier shoes (no athletic shoes) with matching socks are worn. Each boy will receive a boutonniere to wear on his jacket lapel.
