<p> CLHS 2015-2016 Course Syllabus English II</p><p>Instructor: Ms. Kylea Kennemer Classroom: A108 Phone: (830) 885-1789 Conference: 6th Period 2:02 p.m. 2:56 p.m. E-mail [email protected] Tutoring: Tuesdays/Thursdays 7:5o a.m. - 8:20 a.m. 4:00 p.m.- 4:30 p.m.</p><p>SUPPLIES:</p><p>Pens (Blue or Black) 3-ring binder with dividers Pencils Notebook paper High-lighters Composition book</p><p>TEXT: Mirrors and Windows, EMC Publishing Springboard English Textual Power, Level 5, College Board Models For Writers Rosa and Eschholz</p><p>NOVELS: 12 Angry Men, Animal Farm, additional novels</p><p>PLAYS: Antigone, Othello, Julius Caesar</p><p>Other readings (short stories, poetry, essays, various genres) throughout the year.</p><p>COURSE DESCRIPTION: In English II, students will develop an understanding for reading, writing, research, listening, speaking, and the oral and written conventions of English. Students will engage in activities that build on their prior knowledge and skills in order to strengthen their reading, writing, and oral language skills. In addition, students will continue to address earlier standards as needed while they attend to standards for their grade level. Students will read and write extensively in multiple genres and keep a portfolio of written work. Students will work independently, as well as in cooperative groups. Oral presentations will be required in addition to multi-media projects, which will be created in the campus computer lab. CLHS 2015-2016 Course Syllabus </p><p>CLASS RULES: 1. Be courteous and respectful. 2. Actively participate in class discussions (in a productive and constructive manner). 3. Turn in all assignments on time. 4. Arrive on time and prepared for class. 5. Cell Phones are to be OFF and put AWAY at all times, unless specified by the teacher.</p><p>EVALUATION: Each six week grading period will consist of a combination of daily work, homework, quizzes, common assessments, and major grades. District grading scale is as follows:  Daily work & Homework: 20% minimum of 6 required  Quizzes & CAs: 35% minimum of 2 required (2 quizzes or 1 CA & 1 quiz)  Major: 45% minimum of 2 required</p><p>LATE WORK: Please note that if the assignment is 3 or more days late, no credit will be given. See the below chart for district policy regarding late work. It is the student’s responsibility to come during tutorials for CLHS 2015-2016 Course Syllabus assistance with any make-up work. Any assignment not turned in within the allotted time falls within the late work guidelines. </p>
