The writing portions will provide practice in composing complete and grammatically correct sentences and lead to the development of coherent paragraphs. The oral portion will focus on correct usage and pronunciation of conversational Spanish.</p><p>Catalogue Description : The course is designed to develop Spanish language skills through practice in listening, speaking, writing and structural analysis.</p><p>Grading : Grades will be based on effort, quality and improvement in the course of the class. Student work station. vhlcentral.cm GBC General Education Goals/Objectives</p><p>Course Objective 1: Personal Communication: The course is designed to develop Spanish language skills through practice in listening, speaking, writing and structural analysis.</p><p>Learner Outcomes: 1. demonstrate beginning written proficiency in Spanish 2. demonstrate beginning oral proficiency in Spanish 3. demonstrate beginning aural proficiency in Spanish 4. demonstrate beginning reading skills in Spanish</p><p>Measurement of Expected Outcomes: 1. written workbook and text exercises with key translation assignments ACE and chapter practice tests phrase and vocabulary lexicon</p><p>2. in class drill and practice oral question set per chapter ASC tutor conversation Live Net conversation</p><p>3. instructor directions in Spanish CDs, Live Net as above #2</p><p>4. reading selections in the text and auxiliary materials</p><p>Course Objective 2: Critical Thinking: The course is designed to help the student learn to integrate creativity, logic, quantitative reasoning and the hierarchy of inquiry and knowing in social and scientific understanding:</p><p>Quantitative Ability= understand mathematical principles and integrate quantitative methods into problem solving. Learner Outcomes 1. demonstrate quantitative ability as it applies to language</p><p>Measurement of Expected Outcomes 1. apply appropriate mathematical computational operations to deduce the metric conversion of distances, volumes, temperature and weights on an exam</p><p>Reasoning and Independent Thought=use logical and visual thinking in Selecting, analyzing and presenting information.</p><p>Learner Outcomes 1. demonstrate an understanding of the logical applications of syntax, gender, case, mood, tense in a foreign language</p><p>Measurement of Expected Outcomes 1. teach the class a logical application of above, create a quiz</p><p>Scientific Understanding= demonstrate an understanding of the workings of natural systems, hierarchy of scientific knowing and the use of scientific methods; show an ability to use this knowledge predicatively.</p><p>Learner Outcomes 1. demonstrate a mastery of the application of foreign language to science 2. determine Latin and Greek roots of scientific terminology</p><p>Measurement of Expected Outcomes 1. quiz on medical or technical terminology 2. class presentation of Latin and Greek roots</p><p>Course Objective 3-Personal and Cultural Awareness: The course is designed for the student to understand the roles of individuals in society and the development of that society in one’s culture and beyond it.</p><p>Learner Outcomes 1. demonstrate knowledge of the role of the interactive dynamic of an individual and one’s culture as well as a foreign culture.
