<p> Greek Shield Project</p><p>Background:The Ancient Greeks became legendary for their fighting style and their use of shields in battle. They became unbeatable on the field and their shields have become a focus of historians.</p><p>Directions: Students will create their own Greek Shield. The design will be based on their choice of city state, a part of themselves, and patron god.</p><p>Part 1: Shield</p><p>1. This is an individual project, so students will be completing & passing in their own shields.</p><p>2. The shields can be made in one of the following shapes: Diamond, Rectangle, or Circle.</p><p>3. The shield can be created using Styrofoam, Cardboard, or Poster Board. I would suggest not drawing directly on the material but something like construction paper usually works nicely. </p><p>4. The shield must be at least 20x16. Make sure to hold the product up to yourself you want it to cover at least from your shoulder to waist. 5. You must represent your city state (Athens or Sparta), your patron god, and yourself (something to represent your personality) using colors, symbols or shapes.</p><p>Part 2: Writing -3 separate paragraphs</p><p>1. Students must complete 3 separate paragraphs answering the following questions. You will tape the paragraphs to the back of your shield.</p><p>2. Students must use at least one book, and two internet sources. (Wikipedia and Google are not allowed sites. You may use Google to find sites but it is not the site itself.You must site your sources using the correct format. </p><p>Paragraph Questions:</p><p>1) Pick one of the Greek gods. Explain using specific details your choice of patron god, their creation story, what they were in charge of, what type of people (jobs) would worship them, and if they had one what city held them as a Patron God.</p><p>2) Explain in detail your city state and the daily life for female and male child & adult in this city state.</p><p>3) Explain using specific example how you showed yourself, your patron god, and your city state on your shield.</p><p>Due Dates:</p><p>Design Sketch:Students must pass in an initial sketch of their flag design on a blank piece of 8x11 printer paper due on Monday April 6th. </p><p>Rough Draft/Graphic Organizer: Students rough draft of their three paragraphs by Friday April 10. Completed Project: Project must be turned in its entirety Tuesday April 28 </p>
