Lab dissections of a sheep’s brain, eye, and heart will supplement the course work. Laboratory experiences are an integral part of the course and students can expect homework regularly. Topics covered include: homeostasis, organ systems, anatomical terminology, tissues, the integumentary system, the skeletal system, human reproduction, the nervous system and the cardiovascular system. . </p><p>Classroom Expectations and Policies: 1. Be on time and sit in your assigned seat. Parents will be notified by phone of each absence and tardy. 4+ is considered excessive. 2. Bring your materials to class everyday (Interactive notebook, NHS student planner, paper, pens/pencils, and homework). 3. No eating or drinking in the classroom, except for water. REMEMBER: We dissected something on that table! 4. School rules will be enforced. a. No iPods, cell phones, or other electronic devices (including headphones). If taken away, they will be turned in to the Student Service Center (SSC). *Unless otherwise specified by the teacher. b. Follow the dress code (No hoods or hats allowed on in class). 5. Please use the restroom before coming to class. There will be limited trips to the bathroom for each student throughout the semester. 6. If you are absent please check online for your homework. I would like your previous night’s homework returned on the day you come back to school, and your new homework to be completed no later than one day after you return. </p><p>Grading: 1. Assignments must be turned in ON TIME to receive full credit. Late assignments will be docked points. (Notebooks are docked 3pts/per page/per day late. Projects are docked 5 pts every day late) 2. You will complete an interactive notebook each semester. This interactive notebook is to be brought to class EVERY DAY. All work will be completed, and kept in the interactive notebook. 3. ALL homework and Powerpoints are posted on my website, which can be found through the Nogales website at (http://nhs.rowlandschools.org). If you are absent, you can always check the website for homework. If you are having trouble finding my site-type my last name in the “search text” box on the Nogales website or click on “Staff directory”. Scroll down until you find my name-then click on it. 4. Tests will include a variety of different types of questions (true/false, multiple choice, short answer, essay, fill in the blank, and a performance activity.) 5. Martin. We do NOT have a class set of books. Your book is expected to be on campus EVERYDAY. Each member of the learning community must maintain the highest standards of honesty and conduct so that the reputations of Nogales High School and the IB program are not compromised.</p><p>Students who are not totally honest in their academic work detract from the program in the following ways:</p><p> They may receive the same or better grade for less work than students who master the material through honest methods.  They causes the class rankings of students to be flawed.  They distort the teacher’s perception of curriculum effectiveness and class progress.  They force the teacher to take actions not normally required in an honest climate. This reduces the amount of time spent of productive teaching and course preparation.  They diminish the credibility of the entire program.</p><p>The following activities are in violation of the NHS honor code:</p><p>1. The giving or receiving of any unauthorized aid or assistance on any form of academic work 2. Plagiarism that includes the copying, or representation, of another’s work as one’s own without appropriate attribution to the source 3. Claiming as your own, work that is “published” via the Internet</p><p>• First violation: – Zero on assignment – Teacher meets with parent – Cheating policy is signed by student and parent • Second violation: – Zero on assignment – Teacher and V.P. meet with parent and sign cheating policy – Student is placed on behavior contract, Saturday School, and essay written on cheating • Third violation: – Zero on assignment – Student sent to SSC with referral – V.P. meets with parent and student is suspended.
