This huge ship was almost 900 feet (269 meters) long and had been advertised as "unsinkable ." </p><p>On the night of April 14,1912,the Titanic hit an iceberg as it was sailing in the North Atlantic Ocean. The ship had been traveling from Britain to the USA Within a few hours, the ship sank , killing about 1,500 people. Most of them drowned in the cold water because there weren't lifeboats for everyone. Only 705 people survived the accident. </p><p>In 1985, oceannographers found the remains of the Titanic on the ocean floor using sonar and a remote-controls submarine.
