<p> 1625 Independent People PERSON SPECIFICATION</p><p>ASSESSMENT, MEDIATION & SUPPORT WORKER</p><p>Need to address safeguarding, equalities and the voice of young people at the centre </p><p>ASSESSMENT METHOD CRITERIA Application Interview Form process 1. Significant experience of working with young people and families including assessment of their needs, whole family work and safeguarding e.g. in a Family Support or Social Work setting</p><p>2. Ability to mediate between young people and their families and work towards relationship repair. This may involve managing conflict</p><p>3. Experience of using a range of short term family interventions e.g. mediation, help with parenting skills</p><p>4. Ability to relate to young people and families and to motivate/enthuse them even when they are reluctant to engage</p><p>5. Excellent communications skills with young people, families and partner agencies including ability to facilitate group meetings e.g. Team Around the Family (TAF) Meetings</p><p>6. Excellent written and IT skills including the ability to use multiple databases and to write accurate and timely reports</p><p>7. Ability to carry out thorough, strengths-based assessments which: gain the relevant information whilst keeping young people engaged quickly identify where young people and families are likely to need a longer term support service due to the complexity of the issues presenting support them to access relevant services</p><p>8. Ability to manage a caseload of young people and families that require on-going/ follow-up work to reduce the risk of homelessness through the TAF process</p><p>9. Excellent advice, signposting and advocacy skills</p><p>10. A commitment to the key messages of the Bristol Youth MAPS and an ability to deliver them effectively in all communication with young people, families at external agencies</p><p>12. Experience of and ability to deliver training to other professionals</p><p>13. Personal qualities of being non-judgemental, self reliant and ability to tolerate stress 14. Positive attitude to the use of supervision and reflective practice 14. Strong team working skills, committed to multi-disciplinary learning 15. Understanding of the principles of PIE (Psychologically Informed Environments) and ability to put these principles into practice when working with YP and families 16. A flexible approach which may include some evenings and weekend working to meet the needs of young people and their families 17. Driving licence and access to a vehicle or the equivalent ability to travel with reasonable adjustments/mobility support - requirement to regularly travel across Bristol DESIRABLE CRITERIA Social Work, Youth Work or equivalent </p><p>2</p>
