Behrman, PhD, MSW, M.Div., LCSW is the Senior Clinician at CHADS Coalition for Mental Health and Assistant Adjunct Professor at Saint Louis University (SLU) for the past 25 years. He serves as a Gero-Ed Center Expert Trainer, with the Council Social Work Education and the Training Incentive Program (TIPS) with Boston University’s Institute for Geriatric Social Work. He also attended the Gerontology Summer Institute, with the National Institute of Health (NIH) at Syracuse. A SLU MSW graduate and former Associate Dean of Graduate Admissions, Dr. Behrman is also the former Board Chair of the Gateway End of Life Coalition which hosts its regional bi-monthly workshops and annual conference at SLU. His research and publications are in trauma recovery and the role of faith and spirituality in the aging process. </p><p>During this interactive workshop, participants will begin by distinguishing what is a value, ethic, and belief and demonstrate how to integrate a holistic approach to addressing end of life ethical conflicts through a spiritually sensitive lens. This learning experience will be applicable to all populations social workers serve, as every practice encounters “end of life issues” in the form of poverty, lack of access to resources, discrimination, and ageism. </p><p>Workshop objectives: By completing this workshop, participants will be able to: 1. Distinguish values, ethics, and beliefs when serving clients 2. Apply a holistic approach to ethical decision making 3. Howell, MSW serves as a Child Welfare Consultant. He recently retired as an Advanced Bilingual Child Welfare Specialist with Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Northwestern University, and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. He received his Masters in Social Work in 2001 from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. His work experience includes 28 years in the United States Air Force and 10 years as a child welfare specialist. Mr. Howell has conducted numerous workshops on children and family issues and has presented professional papers in the United States and internationally. His research interests are studying and researching women’s and children's issues in the Caribbean and in Central and South America. He is a bilingual Panamanian and is committed to promoting diversity and positive change. Mr. Howell serves as the NCMSLC Board of Directors Vice President. </p><p>Race-The Power of an Illusion challenges our most fundamental beliefs: that humans come divided into a few distinct biological groups.
