<p>The CIPFA Procurement & Commissioning Network </p><p>CIPFA Staff Mutuals Workshops – Creating a Staff Mutual in the Public Sector – A Route Map for Success 8th October 2013 – London & 10th October 2013 – Leeds Two special workshops have been developed with the support of the Cabinet Office and other leading partners to help public bodies navigate the intricate process of forming and launching a public service mutual. On-going austerity measures and the desire to empower staff are two factors encouraging public bodies to consider staff mutuals and other social enterprises as innovative new ways to provide public services. If you have been tasked to set up a staff mutual for your service area or are a director, manager or officer involved in commissioning services, these workshops offer you an ideal environment to understand the technical route map to create a staff mutual. The recent spin-out of 3BM, a London schools support service, is the first ever mutual joint venture to spin out of local government. Designated a national pilot by the Cabinet Office, this new model has attracted huge public sector interest, not least for its potential to reduce the risk of forming staff mutuals. Speakers in this session were central to planning the joint venture and making it happen. The session will cover: . Mutual motives – why the Tri-borough councils opted to spin out school support . Joint venture attractions – why and how a joint venture emerged as the preferred spin-out route . Tackling the procurement challenge .
