I’ll give you a hint: O tannenbaum, O tannenbaum . Hi, I’m Adam Hamilton, Senior Pastor at The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection. Tannenbaum is German for fir tree. So, if you guessed Germany, you’re right! The first Christmas tree is thought to have appeared in 1570, in a small town in Germany. The little tree was placed in the town hall and decorated with fruit, nuts and other sweets. On Christmas day, the town’s children gathered to collect the treats off of the tree and the Christmas tree was born. The ornaments on our family’s tree are not meant to be eaten, instead, they represent important moment in our lives or special people and many represent our faith. Take a few quiet moments tonight, look at the ornaments on your tree and what they mean to you and maybe as you do hum a line or two of O Tannenbaum.

(Lady’s voice) If you don’t have a church home, we invite you to celebrate with us at The Church of the Resurrection’s candlelight Christmas Eve.
