Interventions have been put into place to give your child this extra time he/she needs to learn these important skills. Your child has been placed into the following intervention: SIPPS (Systematic Instruction in Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, and Sight Words). This program instructs students in phoneme awareness, sight words, guided spelling, and daily reading. In the challenge level of SIPPS students will learn syllables, morphemic transformations, reading entire words, and fluency. READ NATURALLY This program focuses on developing fluency. Fluency is the ability to read as well as we speak, and make sense of the text without stopping to decide each word. REWARDS (Reading Excellence: Word Attack and Rate Development Strategies). This program teaches flexible strategies for decoding multi-syllabic words in order to build reading accuracy and fluency. ROAD TO THE CODE This is a program for teaching phonemic awareness and letter sound correspondence. COMPASS LEARNING This is a computer based program that has individualized instruction in math or reading. LADDERS TO SUCCESS This program reinforces essential math skills. SIDEWALKS This program instructs priority skills of phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. 2nd STEP This program allows children to learn and practice vital social skills, such as empathy, emotion management, problem solving, and cooperation. ROAD TO READING This program teaches phonemic awareness, phonics, decoding, spelling, and fluency. These interventions are done outside of your child’s general education classroom for a minimum of 30 minutes per day. Your child’s progress in reading will be assessed every 2 weeks to ensure that he/she is developing the reading skills necessary to reach success. Your child’s teacher will receive a copy of progress and will be able to share this information with you. If you have any questions concerning the intervention your child is receiving, please contact me at 871-5270.

Sincerely, Mrs. Kim Willacker Response to Intervention Coordinator “Millington Community Schools will provide a quality, progressive education in a safe environment that prepares all individuals for a successful and productive future.”
