As you roll over the doorway, Keystone will tell you the name of the activity and what you will be doing. When that doorway is clicked, it will take the user to the specific activity. Keystone will suggest what activity to play next when the user returns to the main screen from each activity. Although users can go wherever they like at any time, they will progress through the game from the simplest activity to the most difficult if they follow Keystone’s suggestions. Players can choose a different level by clicking one of the four buttons in the bottom right corner of the screen.

Certificates Certificates can be earned for each activity in most levels. A crown button will appear when a certificate has been earned. The certificate will automatically appear when it has been earned. The student can print it immediately or go back to the activity and print it later.

Keystone Keyboard This activity involves familiarizing students with key/letter locations on a keyboard. Level 1 – Students press any key to produce a special surprise. Characters will appear and speak the letter name. Level 2 – Keystone the Dragon gives verbal instructions to find a certain letter. The letter will be displayed in the box at the top of the screen. The target key will flash. When a letter is found, the key turns black. Level 3 – Keystone invites students to find a letter and a word that starts with that letter is shown. When the student presses the key, a picture appears from the key. If three seconds elapse without any key action, the key will flash. Level 4 – Students are shown a picture of an object and are expected to type the first letter of that word. If ten seconds elapse without any key action, the target key will flash.

6 Kid Keys Windows Dragon Tunes In this activity the students have the opportunity to learn keyboarding skills and make music at the same time.

Level 1 – Students explore the musical magic keyboard. They use the keyboard to make music by typing any sequence of keys on the keyboard. The top row is the Melody Row, the middle row is the Chord Row, and the bottom row is the Bass Row.

Level 2 – Keystone uses the Alphabet Song to involve children musically in improving their skill at locating the letter keys in alphabet sequence.

Level 3 – Students are timed as they type the alphabet. The clock starts when the A key is pressed. The letters are presented in the Hint Window. If the wrong key is pressed, nothing happens until the correct key is pressed.

Level 4 – This level challenges students to type letter sequences to create dragon tunes. Students select a song from the list and press the Start button. The Hint Window displays the letters that must be typed in order to create the song. When all the letters have been typed, a complete version of the song will play.

The Dragon Tunes Alouette Old MacDonald Bingo Pop Goes the Weasel Brother John Rock-a-Bye-Baby The Dreidel Song She’ll be Comin’ Round the Mountain Hickory Dickory Dock Six Little Ducks Hush, Little Baby This Old Man Itsy Bitsy Spider Twinkle, Twinkle Jingle Bells

7 Kid Keys Windows Keyboard Instrument To use the keyboard as an instrument, you need to be in level 1. Students must use the Shift key.

9 Kid Keys Windows Castle Keys Students type entire sentences with correct capitalization, spacing and punctuation. Each sentence is spoken after it is typed. The castle friends are locked out of the castle. Typing the sentences will assist each of the castle friends to jump up and get the key from Keystone. Once the last sentence is typed, the character grabs the key and the child earns a certificate.

Level 1 The focus here is on simple short sentences. The student is not required to press the shift key for capitals or to put the period at the end of the sentence.

Level 2 This level includes longer sentences with bigger words. The student must type the period.

Level 3 Even longer sentences with bigger words are used here and the student must press the Shift key to make the capital letters.

Level 4 The most difficult level involves pressing the Shift key for capital letters and for the question mark.

10 Kid Keys Windows Mouse Chase Computer mouse skills are practiced in this section. The student must clear the room of mice by clicking them. This will send them scurrying to their holes.

Level 1 This level has mice running around the room. Keystone prompts the user to help him by clicking the mice. Once all the mice have been clicked, they do not return.

Level 2 In this level there are more and faster mice, and some of them return after they are clicked.

Level 3 The 3rd level has mice with food in their mouth. They drop the food as they run to their holes. After the mice are clicked, Keystone will say that he is hungry, and the student must drag the food to his mouth to feed him. This teaches the skills of clicking and dragging.

Level 4 The fourth level also has mice that drop food, but they are much faster, there are many more of these and many returns after they are clicked.

11 Kid Keys Windows Judson ISD Professional Development Evaluation

Session Title: Session Location: Session Date: Presenter(s):

I came expecting… I got…

I value… I want next…

12
