<p> Adrian Condren Training Safety Officer DTE Capel Curig Training Camp Betws-y-Coed LL24 0DS Tel: +44 01690 720142 Fax: +44 01690 720391 E-mail: [email protected]</p><p>November 2014 All Unit OC/Leaders </p><p>JOINING INSTRUCTIONS FOR YOUR VISIT TO CAPEL CURIG TRAINING CAMP (CCTC)</p><p>GENERAL</p><p>1. The camp is situated at GR 750575 (Map Sheet 115 1:50000) on the A5 between Betws-y -Coed and Capel Curig. The camp provides a base for adventurous training in Snowdonia, mainly for canoeing, hill walking, mountain biking, and rock climbing. The Training Safety Officer (TSO) is an experienced mountaineer and mountain biker who has liaison and advisory duties concerning training. The TSO will brief OCs of visiting units together with those responsible for training and admin. Units are strongly advised to carry out a detailed recce beforehand if possible.</p><p>ADVANCE PARTY ARRIVAL TIME</p><p>2. It is better if accommodation could be taken over by 1500 hrs on Fridays. Units arriving on a Sunday must take over their accommodation by 1900 hrs. To comply with Fire Safety regulations visiting units are to ensure that a nominal role is handed into the admin staff on their arrival march in. Units not complying with this order will not be accommodated. All OCs are to ensure that this nominal role is typewritten and 100% accurate as it will be used for emergency procedures including fire safety. </p><p>HEALTH & SAFETY</p><p>3. All leaders/OCs are to comply with the safety measures in JSP 375 Volume 2 Leaflet 11. Units are required to have conducted a risk assessment related to their proposed activities. OCs of units can liaise with the TSO on all training safety issues and for local advice on routes/trails. OCs are also responsible for ensuring that all personnel are briefed and aware of their responsibilities regarding Safety, Health, Environment and Fire (SHEF) Legislation. </p><p>ACTIVITY SHEETS 4. Units are to submit daily activity sheets before commencing training (activity sheets are available in reception). The TSO/MGS (out of hours) will act as your Long Stop and any units failing to return before dark (unless specified) will be contacted immediately.</p><p>WEAPONS AND AMMUNITION </p><p>5. Weapons are permitted in the camp but security is the responsibility of the visiting unit. There is no Arms Cote.</p><p>WEATHER</p><p>6. Units are to check the local weather (a print out is held in reception) and leaders may attend a more detailed activity Met Brief Tues-Fri 0830hrs in Lecture Room 3.</p><p>PRIVATE VEHICLES</p><p>7. Private vehicles are to be kept to a minimum and to be parked in the car park behind the Cruck Barn. Only Green vehicles are allowed to park within the camp perimeter. All other “civilian plate” vehicles must be parked in the main car park.</p><p>HANDOVER</p><p>8. All units have a responsibility to keep their accommodation and surrounds clean and tidy. Vacuum Cleaners and floor polishers etc are available from the camp stores. Ensure that you allow sufficient time to clean up properly before attempting to hand back your accommodation. Accommodation must be handed back by 1100 hrs on the day of departure. A charge will be levied for a contractor to make good any accommodation left unclean.</p><p>AREA CLEANING</p><p>9. Units are to carry out area cleaning around their accommodation and any communal areas that have been used before deploying.</p><p>CATERING</p><p>10. Contract catering is provided by ESS. All units are to notify the Chef Manager at least 24 hrs prior to any change to their feeding requirements. Flasks can be filled up at breakfast prior to departing on training. Meal timings: (Breakfast 0700-0800hrs) - (Dinner 1800-1900hrs) are to be strictly adhered to; there are no late or early meal facilities. Be warned and plan ahead. Units not showing up for meals will be reported to the TSO/Messing Officer.</p><p>11. Units are responsible for providing their own ORP for overnight expeditions.</p><p>12. The following documents are required by ESS on arrival:</p><p> a. Nominal Role - Please note that ESS will only accept a typewritten Nominal Role. b. AF 7764 (provided by Admin HQ). It is attached to your information pack.</p><p>13. Failure to comply with this instruction may result in the contractor being unable to meet the unit’s requirements.</p><p>ESSENTIAL EQUIPMENT</p><p>14. Units are responsible for providing their own specialist adventurous training equipment. In addition all personnel must bring a sleeping bag.</p><p>FUEL & LPG</p><p>15. Fuel including LPG is not to be brought onto the camp without authority from either the TSO or RSM. </p><p>16. Units are required to bring their own Fuel Agency Cards. A Shell garage is situated in the local village Betws-y-Coed (approx 3 Miles from CCTC).</p><p>MEDICAL</p><p>17. There is no medical cover in the camp. Serious casualties will be sent to Bangor Hospital . Units are responsible for providing adequate medical cover for their planned activities.</p><p>FIRE PRECAUTIONS</p><p>18. Units are to carry out a fire drill (do not sound the alarm) within 24 hours of arrival and ensure that all troops are aware of the Assembly Point location.</p><p>PETS </p><p>19. Pets are not to be brought on to the camp in addition Rules for Training in Wales prohibits dogs being taken into the hills.</p><p>GENERAL BEHAVIOUR</p><p>20. The camp is situated within the Snowdonia National Park and is a major tourist area. Behaviour in local villages and towns must be beyond reproach. Quiet hours on Camp are from 2330hrs. You are reminded that the National Park is privately owned or tenanted land and that the military are privileged to have use of the area for adventurous training. Units must stick to the Public Rights of Way or on routes/activities cleared under TOPL.</p><p>21. All incidents, however trivial, must be reported to the TASO/RSM.</p><p>BBQ 22. BBQs are permitted only with the authority of the TSO and units are to provide a member of staff with a Food Handling certificate. </p><p>ADMINISTRATION</p><p>23. The Admin HQ Staff will try and assist you with any clerical matters, photocopying, use of a DII terminal or WiFi.</p><p>ABLUTIONS</p><p>24. There are modern ablution facilities with hot water on demand, 24/7. </p><p>LAUNDRY</p><p>25. There is a laundry in Building 18 adjacent to the camping field. The charge is £2 per wash and £2 for a dryer.</p><p>DRYING ROOMS</p><p>26. There are large and efficient drying facilities on camp which will be allocated upon arrival.</p><p>STORAGE OF EQUIPMENT</p><p>27. Limited unit storage space is available which will be allocated on arrival.</p><p>CLIMBING TOWER AND SPORTING FACILITIES</p><p>28. A Climbing Tower and Boulder can be booked for use provided that a properly qualified instructor is in attendance. On the Camping ground there is a basketball and volleyball pitch. A Trim Trail is sited around the Helipad. Units should bring their own sporting equipment. It is the units responsibility to produce risk assessments for any of the above activities.</p><p>TELEVISIONS / ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES</p><p>29. Visiting units are not to use their own televisions or other electrical goods i.e. heaters, kettles, boilers, irons etc in the accommodation as this will overload the camp electrical system leading to power failures. There is no power on during the day in accommodation blocks.</p><p>30. Internet access can be obtained for Laptops and Smart phones on application to the Admin Office. A service telephone is available in the Foyer and you may request the use of a DII (F) terminal through the HQ Admin AO. There are internet kiosks in the TV Room. </p><p>GYMNASIUM</p><p>31. There is a small gymnasium for visiting regular and reserve units. Keys are available from the Guardroom after reading the Gymnasium Orders. ACCOMMODATION (Field Conditions)</p><p>32. You are reminded that this camp is deemed to be under field conditions & therefore is of a robust nature. However we expect you to leave it in a tidy and clean condition, just as you would expect to find it.</p><p>HIRED VEHICLES</p><p>33. All individuals / units are to inform the MGS if they are expecting delivery of a hired vehicle. The Camp accepts no responsibility for unit hired vehicle administration.</p><p>ESS OPERATING COSTS</p><p>34. Before any unit volunteers military chefs to be employed here in the kitchen it is important that these resources are notified to the TSO.
