<p> HONORS AND ADVANCED PLACEMENT PROGRAM</p><p>Each academic department is made up of a variety of courses that range in difficulty. The most challenging and demanding courses are typically designated honors or Advanced Placement. In choosing any honors or AP course students are expected to be self-motivated. In honors and AP English and social studies students should be avid readers and competent writers. In honors math students should have consistently high grades in prior math courses and be willing to put in considerable time outside of the classroom. Honors and AP science and world language classes are very rigorous and time consuming. Being interested in studying a subject in depth is very important. Choosing these classes require dedication, self-discipline and ability in the subject. </p><p>The following honors and AP courses require specific criteria for enrollment:</p><p>Language Arts Mathematics Science Social Studies Business/ World Related Arts Language English 9 H Geometry H Earth Science H World History H Accounting 2 H Spanish 5 H</p><p>English 10 H Algebra 2 H Biology H US History 1 H AP Art History French 5 H</p><p>English 11 H Pre Calculus H Chemistry H US History 2 H Hi Tech Music 3 H </p><p>English 12 H AP Calculus AP Biology AP US History</p><p>AP English AP Statistics AP Chemistry AP World History Language AP English Human Anatomy & Literature Physiology H</p><p>Honors and Advanced Placement Program Entrance Policy</p><p>Students entering 9th grade must meet the following criteria to gain access to the honors program*: o Teacher recommendation o Minimum 85 average on quarterly assessments o Minimum 90 class average in prerequisite course</p><p>High school students enrolled in a college preparatory course seeking admission to the honors program must meet the following requirements*: o Teacher recommendation o Minimum 85 on mid year assessment o Minimum 90 average in prerequisite college preparatory course</p><p>Students enrolled in an honors course seeking admission to an AP course must meet the following requirements*: o Teacher recommendation o Acceptable class average in prerequisite honors course</p><p>*Scores on standardized tests may be considered </p><p>Students enrolled in honors or Advanced Placement courses must maintain an 80 average for the year to continue in the honors or AP program. Any change in a student’s academic status requires departmental evaluation.</p><p>1</p>
