Round all distances to the nearest tenth and angle measures to the nearest degree.

1. A fireman’s ladder leaning against a house makes an angle of 50° with the ground. If the ladder is 8 feet from the base of the house, how long is the ladder?

2. A rock is dropped from the top of the Leaning Tower of Pisa to a point 14 feet from the towers base. If the Leaning Tower of Pisa is 182 feet tall, at what angle does it lean at the ground?

3. Suppose you have been assigned to measure the height of a local water tower. Climbing makes you dizzy, so you decide to do the whole job at ground level. From a point 47.3 meters from the base of the water tower, you find that you must look up at an angle of 53° to see the top of the tower. How tall is the water tower?

4. The tallest freestanding structure in the world is the 553 meter tall CN tower in Toronto, Ontario. Suppose that at a certain time of the day it casts a shadow 1,100 meters long on the ground. What is the angle of elevation of the sun at that time of the day?

5. You lean a ladder 6.7 meters long against the wall. It makes an angle of 63° with the level ground. How high up is the top of the ladder against the wall? 6. A submarine at the surface of the ocean makes an emergency dive, its path making an angle of 21° with the surface. If it goes for 300 meters along its downward path, how deep will it be? What horizontal distance is it from its starting point?

7. From the top of a lighthouse that is 210 feet high, the angle of depression of a boat is 27°. Find the distance from the boat to the foot of the lighthouse. (the lighthouse is at sea level)

8. A surveyor is standing 100 meters from a bridge. She determines that the angle of elevation to the top of the bridge is 35°. The surveyor’s eye level is 2 meters above the ground. Find the height of the bridge?

9. Joe is standing on top of Marina Towers looking at the Leo Burnett World Headquarters building across the Chicago River. It is 880 feet between buildings. Joe finds the angle of elevation to the top of the Leo Burnett building is 8° and the angle of depression to the ground of the Leo Burnett building is 20°. How tall is the Leo Burnett building?

10. ΔABC is an isosceles triangle with equal sides of 5 cm. The base of the triangle is 8 cm. Find all three angles of the isosceles triangle to the nearest degree.
