Public Works Institute

#41 Public Works Institute

To: APWA Florida Chapter Executive Committee

From: Sue Hann, Chair Public Works Institute Advisory Committee

Date: February 20, 2010

RE: Florida Chapter Public Works Institute

The current cycle of the Public Works Institute (PWI) began with Module I on October 27, 2009, with 14 persons registered. Nineteen participated in Module II in January, two (2) of which graduated from the program. All 3 modules are being offered per the following published schedule:

Live Courses (taught at Indian River State College’s main campus in Fort Pierce):  Module I - October 27, 28, 29 – 2009  Module II – January 27, 28, 29 – 2010  Module III – April 14, 15, 16 – 2010

Online Courses:  Module I – February 28, 2010  Additional dates to be determined.

One of the participants from Module II, Dave Bryant from Palm Bay, sent in the following email about the Public Works Institute program.

I wanted to take a moment to thank Carmen and Victoria for their scheduling and presentation of a very interesting and informative class. You had an excellent array of speakers this time, including several from my own organization and I wanted them to know as well the value of the things we learned during this module. I have attended several seminars/training classes over the years, many put on by prestigious organizations such as NASSCO, FIPA, FW & PCOA, as well as a handful presented by extensions of The University of Florida, University of Wisconsin and Texas A & M. I can honestly say your course is in the top 3 as far as I am concerned.

Although it is quite demanding, it offers an incredible learning experience that can be put to immediate use in improving our own careers, futures and lives. This does not happen without a lot of planning, research and complementing it with knowledgeable, dynamic speakers/teachers. Thank you for another great opportunity and I look forward to seeing you in April.

The Public Works Institute continues to be a successful program for the Florida Chapter. Your support in marketing the program throughout the State is appreciated. cc: Dr. Jan Pagano, IRSC Victoria Stalls, IRSC PWIAC Herb Raybourn
